These Old Paris vases are a visual treat, brimming with optimism and the charms of 19th century simplicities.
The pink ground of the body is sharply contrasted with the classic black foot with gold banding. Each vase has a complementary hand painted reserve of courting lovebirds framed in rich gilding. The opposite panel features very loosely painted objects including a beribboned mandolin against a leafy spray.

A large and rare, early 19th C Gathering Basket from North Carolina of rectangle shape with 2 steamed and bent handles. In great condition, it is very tightly woven with a double wrapped rim. Basket is coated with cream colored paint, probably milk paint. Wood is unknown, possibly split oak. From the private collection of an appraiser of Early Americana. An egret gracefully scrolled neck, red glass eyes, and gaping beak stands on one scaly leg, the other leg raised with clenched talons. A beautiful bird with nicely delineated plumage. Hinged at bust. Dutch assay stamp and date letter, and English sterling-standard import marks including London assay stamp. Excellent condition.

This vase stands out with its beautiful cranberry color with rich jeweled honey gilding accented with white scrollwork and blue swags. The sinuous form enhances the overall elegance of its Art Nouveau inspired sensibilities.
Unmarked but clearly Bohemian in origin. We date this class to c. 1910 or earlier.
Condition is excellent with some very minor losses to the gilding

Wonderful blue Cluthra M-handled vase standing 10 inches tall and 7 inches in diameter at its widest point. The vase is shape 8508 and is entirely mixed blue and white from top to bottom. It does not shade to white at the bottom. The bubbles in the Cluthra are small (1/4 inch diameter or less) and are well distributed. There is no damage to this unsigned vase.
