A folky miniature portrait painting of a young man. With his stylish hairdo, high collar, and patterned vest, and pin, the gentleman exemplifies a dandy of the time. The blue hues in the background provide a striking contrast to the relatively monochromatic tones of the sitter.
The miniature is 2 3/8" by 1 3/4" and is housed in its original 2 1/2" by 2" brass case, which also has a lock of hair in the rear aperture. Condition is excellent, with no cracks, bowing, or paint flaking.

This crystal glass was produced in Bohemia in the late 19th century. We are not certain of the manufacturer but it is in the style of Lobmyer and Moser. This is the upper part of a kamishimo; samurai's formal attire without the trousers. It was worn over a kosode (kimono with small sleeves) with trousers. The texture is hemp like; coarse, slightly translucent, thick threads (thicker than other kamishimo). The family crest is the feathers of a hawk. This porcelain butterfly was produced in Thuringia, Germany by the Schwarza-Saalbahn factory around 1900. Similar porcelain objects have been produced by Karl Ens of Volkstedt. The butterfly is 6 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches high. It is made of hard paste porcelain and is decorated with brightly colored high glazed enamels. There is raised enamel beading and gilded accents. It is an unusual object of beauty.

This porcelain vase was produced in Germany by Sontag & Sohne, Tettau, around 1900. It is 7 1/2 inches long at the base, 3 ¾ inches deep and 5 3/4 inches high. The shape and decoration are in the art nouveau style. There is a scene of a Jacobean couple accompanied by a blackamoor and a whippet. It is done in fine hand enameling. A cartouche of embossed gold frames the scene. There are gold accents and the top rim is trimmed with gold. This is a very handsome and unique vase.
