A pair of hand painted English porcelain dessert serving dishes, probably Spode, lozenge shaped with lobes and decorated with floral sprays and sprigs in bright colors with gilt scalloped border and gilt floral design in the apexes. No marks on the base, but this form with the elegant gilding in the apexes is ascribed to Spode and from early in the 19th century. Length 10 ¼, width 7 ¼ and height 2 inches.
Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Almost no wear.

A wonderful example of a creamware dish made by Sewell and Donkin of Newcastle (St. Anthony's until 1819). The painted central scene shows a dying patient receiving his unction above the motto "T Oliesel" (Last Rites), and is surrounded with a colorful floral border. The reverse of the dish has the partial impressed manufacturer's name.

In reality, many factories other than Leeds made pearlware items of this nature, and the type edge here is more properly called a molded edge. Ten creamware dinner plates, transfer printed in puce with a cottage, a farmboy and cattle within a lace border, the outer rim with hand painted vine leaves, also in puce (one vine wreath partly in orange). From Herculaneum in Liverpool c 1810, all with the impressed mark of the pottery as a straight line, in the style of Wedgwood, the name of the pottery also competing with Wedgwood’s Etruria. A very fine and rare Bow porcelain chocolate cup with the "Golfer and Caddy" pattern. The cup of tall "U" Shape with a strap handle. The interior with a wavy border, the handle with a flowering plant, and the base with a "2" workman's mark.
The overall condition is excellent, with only an invisibly done museum quality repair to a small interior rim flake. This wonderful example looks much better in person than the photos show. Cup height is 2 7/8" with a 2 3/4" diameter.
