This is a wonderful pair of Derby putti disguised as flower sellers, dating from the 1770 period. The figures are mirror images of each other, as true pairs should be. A fine and early Worcester patty pan, painted in underglaze blue with the "Bare Tree and Speared Bird" pattern, with trailing leaf sprays on the exterior and a painter's mark on the bottom. This pattern appears to only have been used on patty pans, and is also the only other pattern, aside from the full "Mansfield" pattern, that has a "Mansfield" pattern border.

More important is that the patty pan with this pattern, uncommon in itself, was made in two forms...

A silver form porcelain teapot with the vented knop on the lid and the pattern number, “N 195” in red enamel on the base. This pattern is known as the “knitting wool” pattern. 5 ¾ (14.6 cm) inches tall, 9 3/8 inches (23.8 cm) across the handle and spout.

Condition: excellent. A tiny rough spot on the lip of the spout might be a tiny glaze chip or it could be a very small firing loss.

I think this form is one of the most pleasing for late 18th century teapots.

This soft paste porcelain covered cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Hochst in 1775. The saucer has a diameter of 6 1/2 inches and the cup is 6 inches high. The saucer has a deep well for the cup to fit into so that it does not slide off. This was called a "trembleuse" by the French. The set is decorated in the most opulent fashion. The style and decoration are taken from the French Sevres factory. The scrolled borders are accented with raised gilding...

A fine and rare Bow porcelain coffee cup and saucer painted with the "Dragon Chasing (the Flaming) Pearl (of Wisdom). The interior of the cup also shows the dragon, while the exterior of the saucer is painted with clouds. One of the ways to distinguish this early Bow version is the arrow shaped tongue emanating from the mouth of the dragon. The pieces are very finely potted, and each has a workman's number 13 on the bottom...

This charming tea bowl is decorated with a Chinoiserie scene with three figures, one of them holding a bird. It dates from around 1775, and exemplifies the motifs that were so popular in that period. The interior has an iron-red border and sprig at the bottom of the bowl.

The bowl is 3 1/8" in diameter and 1 3/4" high. Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, restorations, etc...

A hand thrown and painted hard paste porcelain punch bowl decorated on the outside with four bunches of roses and four groups of buds of roses around the outside under a wavy orange border on a tall foot. The inside edge is a band of black and orange hexagons in a Chinese manner under a gilt rim. In the bottom of the bowl is another bunch of roses. Unmarked and obviously European though Italian is a guess rather than a certainty. Late 18th century...

A pair of oversize porcelain plates made and decorated in China around 1790 for export to the West. Brightly colored carmine flowers with touches of blue and yellow and green leaves cover most of the surface of the plates. The edges are glazed brown. 10 ¼ inch (26 cm) diameter.

Condition: one with a couple of very minor chips on the edge and a spider crack visible on the bottom, but not on the face...

An extremely fine example of a saltglaze plate with a scalloped rim and a molded, or embossed, border.

The diameter is 9 1/4" and the condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, or restoration. There are 3 very minor small brown spots on the front due to kiln impurities. It is very unusual to find them in this condition...

A well made 18th century Italian dry drug jar. The body is a red clay covered with white slip then painted in blue with a dentil style pattern at the top and bottom with the name of the drug in the central section. The inside is similarly covered in white slip and shows the ridges from being turned on a potter’s wheel. This jar would have been part of a set of jars used for dry drugs in a pharmacy. 7 ¼ inches tall and 4 ¾ inched diameter...

A very unusual James Pennington bowl with a shaped rim. The painted scene depicts oriental buildings, with the reverse showing rockwork and a variety of odd trees. The interior rim of the bowl has a blue border with stylized flowers or fruit.

The bowl is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, paint loss, or restoration. The enamels are a deep, rich blue. The diameter is 4 3/8" and the height is 2 1/8".

A floral decorated milk jug and floral decorated cover with a rose and leaves finial. The potting of the jug is fairly heavy at the bottom, the decoration of a fairly elaborate boquet and a simpler one on the other side is complimented by the yellow painted rims and decoration on the handle. Vincennes and Sevres had a monopoly on using gilt decoration so that other French factories had to use paint where they might have used gilding. Height approx. 5 ¾ inches. A fine Derby porcelain dish painted by Zachariah Boreman, marked on the reverse with a blue crowned "D" and pattern number 343. The kidney-shaped dish has a beautiful soft green wide border with a gilded edge. The white ground within the green border has elaborate drape and swag gilding on the outside edge, and gilded foliage surrounding the kidney shaped cartouche in the center. This is a very fine Dr. Wall Worcester sparrow beak cream jug, dating from the 1765-1768 period. The pattern features brightly painted pomegranates in various stages of development. There is only one other example of this pattern recorded: a coffee cup that was theorized to have been made as a replacement for a Chinese teaset, and was offered in one of the Zorensky sales. Rare English Delft blue and white plate decorated with a chinese man in a landscape. Dated 1771. London probably Lambeth. Dia. 9" (22.8cm). Condition: good, with normal wear to rim. Two glaze flakes and a small chip (0.6cm)to rim. No cracks or restoration.

A spectacular Chelsea porcelain covered porringer. This wonderful piece is profusely decorated, even on the inside of the bowl, with butterflies, moths, other insects, and flowers. A veritable rainbow of colors was used in the enameling. The finial on the lid is a naturalistically molded rose with hues of reds and pinks, and the handles are painted with a distinct bluish green. The underside has the Chelsea red anchor mark and displays the stilt marks indicative of Chelsea.
