It is a bit larger than a demitasse so I believe it was made for afternoon tea. The set is hand painted with vibrantly colored flowers. Little sprigs dot the interior of the cup. Superb early hinged porcelain box with gilt brass trim. The top of the box is painted with a colorful scene of a pheasant in a pastoral setting with foliage, pink flowers and a lake. The bottom half of the box is painted in a coordinating pattern. Boxes such as this were used to hold small candies called “bonbons”. The best of the boxes were made in France, both in Limoges and in the area around Paris, from the middle of the 18th century.

Excellent Staffordshire children's cup illustrating the letter "H". The blue transfer decoration shows the letter amidst scenery filled with "H" words--horse, house, hound and horn. The cup has very nice color and a thick bluish glaze typical of Staffordshire pottery.

Origin: England, circa 1850. Condition: very good, a tiny (1/8") flake at the top rim. Size: app. 3" diam., 3-1/8" high.

A hand painted porcelain plate with a dark blue ground on the lip with elaborate gilding that extends to the sides of the well. A view of Loch Leven from the shore painted in the center. No marks on the back except “Loch Leven” in dark red enamel script. 8 5/8 inches (22 cm) diameter.

Condition: no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some minor scratches and the haziness of the painting could be caused by stacking wear.

A very well hand painted on porcelain dessert plate depicting a group of plums with stems and leaves in the well of the plate. A thin band of black and gilt marks the edge of the lip which is decorated with a shaped band of grey, separated from a band of maroon band by thin lines of black and white separated by a slightly thicker band of textured gilding. Very good Staffordshire pottery inkwell in the form of a country cottage beside a tree populated by a mother bird and her nest of young. A Dalmatian watches the birds from the ground. The cushion base is accented with a gilt line.

Origin: England, circa 1860. Condition: very good, normal glaze crazing; some ink discoloration to base, no chips or cracks. Size: 4-7/8" x 2-1/16" x 4-3/4" tall.
