A delightful bronze dresser mirror, the entire frame ornately decorated in the form of two Pierrot figures and a smiling man-in-the-moon. Pierrot was a originally a Comedia dell’Arte character, but in the 18th century, he and the moon became inextricably linked in the French children’s song, “Au Claire de la Lune.” There are a few variations of this mirror; this is the most ornate, with the intricately beveled glass. Antique 18th century Spanish cast bronze naval signal - saluting cannon Mortar (Thunder Mug) of a typical design with a handle.
A tapered two-stage barrel, with a reinforcing ring swelling towards the muzzle, with a pronounced, molded, flared muzzle. It rests on a prominent turned round (breech) base with a pan raised and a touch-hole (vent).
This type of mortar cannon, "Thunder Mug," was used on ships in the 17th and 18th centuries to salute and signal the port of their arrival.

Beautiful bronze statue by Eugene Marioton, French, 1854-1925, titled "Vainquer." The statue itself stands 27 1/2" tall, and it sits on a bronze and rogue marble pedestal that measures 44" tall, making the complete set just under 6" tall. The statue is inscribed Eug. Marioton, and Siot-Decauville is the French foundry.
