A large and rare antique, circa 1850, French casein tortoise shell casket with bronze ormolu framework featuring a working lock with key. The casein was applied over mahogany or rosewood creating a sturdy chest. Inside is the original silk lining perfectly intact. This chest is superbly crafted and very well preserved, there is just a little wear on the top and wear to the gold gilt on the bronze ormolu consistent with its age...
A large Tahitian "black ocean pearl" oyster shell (Pinctada margaritifera) depicting a fisherwoman, finely carved in northern France or Belgium probably during the last quarter of the 19th Century.
