Rare and important head of a bearded apostle, his face showing a strong and passionate expression. Polychrome wood. Eyes made of glass painted inside. Small Christ in cast bronze, traces of gilding. French medieval 13th century. The bronze has a beautiful old patina, there is very little gilding left. He wears a loincloth and an Egyptian headdress. A stylized flower appears to be drawn on his belly. It was mounted on a gilded wooden frame probably in the 18th century. Height of Christ alone 95mm. Good condition, no repairs, normal wear for the period, beautifull original patina.

This particular piece is a very unique, stone prayer tablet. It is difficult to date but stylistically could be as early as the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD). These tablets were often found in conjunction with the ceramic offering vessels from Yunnan. The tablets would accompany the offering vessels and would sometimes comprise an enclosure for the offering vessels. (See trocadero item number 797164 for an example of the offering vessel)...

A square Chinese cloisonne enamel gau box with four arched apertures and gold gilt strap loops for personal carrying. Richly decorated on a yellow ground with designs of formal lotus and foliage, the top side panel has a dark blue fylfot. The back panel, with the large red Shou-type character, slides up to open. Made for the Tibetan market, this dates early to mid 19th century, but could possibly be late 18th. Measures 3.35 inches high, 3" across, 1" deep.

Probably, our finest and surely the heaviest silver icon, we've had for a while! Russian Orthodox icon with an amazing wrought and chisseled Oklad, dating 1871.

This is NOT the usual foliage thin silver sheet oklad but a a heavy thick hammered and chisseled silver oklad in a baroque style with relief heads in each corner and weighing several 100s of grams in .84 silver.
