A very fine Imperial Russian lacquer box by Vishniakov. The lid is decorated with a winter scene showing an empty troika, still tethered to its horse, located just outside a snow-covered log building. The scene is beautifully detailed. English Victorian Lacquered Papier Mache Game Box with hinged top, Ca. late 1800's, 10" wide, 7" deep, 1 1/4" high, top and 4 sides are decorated with very colorful lacquer design, white metal lock plate is embossed and marked with "W/VR", and red velvet with gold tooled border and old paper lined interior, deep tooled mark with big Crown on the bottom shows "... & Bett Ridge", "Makers to the Queen" Some separations between joint and lacquer losses on the surface through out.

This is one of a pair of wooden (not papier mache) footed plates made for export. The central medallion Japanese scene is classic and the rim has ornate panels with animals and plants. Each side has handle shaped and painted as an ivy leaf.

A very nice folding corner shelf of lacquered papier-mache with metallic decoration of Chinese court scenes. One wall shows ladies riding in a rickshaw while the other shows ladies strolling in a court garden with their guardian. The scalloped edge of the shelf is decorated with a gilt edge.

Very attractive Victorian lacquered papier-mache soap box decorated with a japonaise design. The sides show laborers pulling a boat filled with partiers along a canal. The lid shows a kneeling maiden tending her flower garden in a classic Japanese garden. The lid is also decorated with the soap maker's logo. Japanese styled items were very popular in France from around 1870 until the end of the century.

English Tunbridgeware work/sewing/jewelry box in walnut veneer, decorated with two bands of chevron inlay of various exotic woods and with two hexagonal mother-of-pearl escutcheons. Circa 1880-1900. A wonderful Victorian figural bank constructed of oak and decorated with punched and engraved brass appliqués. This is the only bank we've seen in the shape of a bank! The roof is pierced with two slots to insert coins. The bank retains the original lock, but the key is missing.

A very nice mauchline ware wooden hinged box decorated with seven Washington, DC scenes. American scenes are more difficult to find than English or Scottish scenes, and to find seven different images of the Washington DC area is most uncommon. The box retains its original blue silk lining. With the exception of Mount Vernon, all the buildings had been completed only 5-15 years before this piece was produced.

Fresh from a multi-generation New England estate are two matching, stacking, 19th century, wooden pantry boxes.

Miniature Eastlake design carved wood and upholstery sofa with 8 legs. It measures 20 1/4" long by 9 1/2" high by 6" deep. The wood has a mahogany reddish stain and the printed fabric is upholstery grade. The colors of the fabric are a beige background with blue and yellow stripes and red and green flowers. A very nice Victorian tartanware paper knife in the form of a pocket knife. The cover is in the McBeth tartan. The folding blade is carved from bone or ivory (the blade is too thin to be able to tell with certainty). Tartanware became popular in the mid-19th century because of Queen Victoria's fascination with Scotland. The colorful plaids were transformed into an enormous array of objects for daily use.

This exceptional wood carving of a Santos was made during the early 19th C. and was executed with bold strokes with great impressiveness. The central figure is giving the sign of Christ while holding a black object - perhaps a globe - in his other hand. He is clothed with a coral colored cape, buff tunic, and black boots with gold outlining. Standing atop a sphere, he is surrounded by an oval frame - underscoring the deep relief of the carving. The top and bottom are framing devices with swirls....

A delightful and rare Victorian tartanware egg timer covered in an unidentified red, green, black and yellow. The top and bottom plates are in an unusual horseshoe shape. The posts are covered in tartan, as well. Exposed areas of wood are ebonized. The tartan is not named, and the piece is marked “Made in Scotland”. The timer measures exactly 3 mins.

Really nice early pantry box with a label on the lid and on the front. Both labels read Raisins and it written in nice old sepia ink. The box in in fine crisp condition with nice old patina, mellow honey brown color and hand made nails. The box has a Shaker quality to it but the world made these boxes also so I can't say for sure that it is. It is 8 1/4" across the top and 4 1/4" tall and is circa 1830-40. This is a top notch pantry box.

This extraordinary wood carving is a figure of Santo Nino enveloped in an oval cartouche with swirling flourishes above and below. Nino is robed in dramatic array as she holds a globe in one while giving the sign of Christ in the other. The drapery and decoration of it is exceptional as is the rich relief carving. A pretty Victorian maple swing-handle sewing basket, the interior lined with colorful pleated silk plaid. The bottom, upper frame and handles are constructed of maple, and the spindles forming the sides of the basket are ebonized.
