An arresting colored and beautifully quilted cotton and some sort crape or crepe Amish quilt typical of Lancaster County Pennsylvania with the initials “DE” and the date 1916 embroidered in one corner of the red cotton back. This porcelain chamber stick was produced in the early 19th century. It is unmarked but may have been produced by Coalport. It is 7 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches tall. The fine hard paste porcelain is molded in rococo style and there are three paw feet supporting it. The ground is deep cobalt blue with two reserves. Colorful exotic birds fill these spaces, similar to Chelsea Derby decorations. Gilding of high quality surrounds the two reserves...

I bet her kitchen smells like homemade bread and biscuits. This doll lets you know she is strong and capable and isn't afraid of work. I love that she has big hands formed as a fist with fingers and thumb. Her shoes are also big and sturdy also. The carving is bold and yet touching. She is a great example of the 1920-30's woman farmsteading, likely in Appalachian Mountains. She is 21" tall, carved from heavy hard wood and jointed with screws at the hips and shoulders. These 6 porcelain demitasse cups and saucers were produced in France in the 1890s. They have a spurious Sevres mark but were most likely decorated by a Paris porcelain firm. The saucers have a diameter of 3 3/4 inches and the cups are 2 inches high. The cups have a puffy, blown-out shape. The set is decorated with an elaborate raised gold pattern in two color gold. The interiors of the cups are coated with gold. The rims and handles are gilded. Condition: Excellent

A folky miniature portrait painting of a young man. With his stylish hairdo, high collar, and patterned vest, and pin, the gentleman exemplifies a dandy of the time. The blue hues in the background provide a striking contrast to the relatively monochromatic tones of the sitter.

The miniature is 2 3/8" by 1 3/4" and is housed in its original 2 1/2" by 2" brass case, which also has a lock of hair in the rear aperture. Condition is excellent, with no cracks, bowing, or paint flaking.

A wonderful character cloth doll that just might be one of the earliest selfies. I can imagine a grandmother making a doll in her likeness to give to a child that is not living close by but loves her Grammy.
