A fine first-standard (950/1000 pure) silver tastevin, the bottom inset with a silver 5-franc coin from the reign of Louis Philippe. The coin has good detail, the front showing a bust of the king in profile, while the bottom shows a laurel wreath enclosing the words “5 Francs/1846”. The coin is surrounded by repousse decoration of angled godrons, small convex perles and larger concave cupules...

This mid 19th century folk art crazy quilt is a wonderful mix of richly colored silks and hand embellished surface stitches. The back is a green cotton sateen fabric tied with floss. Eighty seven silk tags create a whimsical border around the entire piece. Taken from a house used as part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War, we believe this piece was the energetic work of a child learning how to sew. A very pretty early 20th century French silver tastevin in the style typical of Dijon in the Burgundy region of France. This style retains the usual convex base surrounded by a wreath of “perles”, but the gadrooning (“godrons”) along the side have been replaced with a decoration of very finely worked grape leaves and clusters of fruit. The handle, also in typical Burgundian style, represents two snakes with the heads of ducks grasping the forbidden apple between their beaks...

A fine mid-19th century French silver tastevin (wine taster), the base inset with an 1810 Italian silver coin from the reign of Emperor Napoleon I as King of Italy. The bottom edge of the bowl is decorated with curved, scalloped "godrons" which were intended to reflect light through white wine to judge clarity. This tastevin does not have the "cupules" ("ovoides") specifically intended to deepen the color of red wines. The sides are decorated with grapevines and clusters of fruit...

Possibly made in Italy or Denmark. With beaded base and knop stem. Finely etched with leaf garland (Imperial) surrounds the piece. Seals on the side. Early 20th Century.

A genuine late 17th to mid 18th century hand made openwork European grade sterling pierced strainer or ladle with a gilded bowl. This unusual 8" ladle has a gilt and pierced 2-3/8" x 2" bowl with a pouring lip, and would be a slightly higher than 800 grade silver. The openwork handle has wonderfully ornate hand made wire-work with two central medallions, which have never been engraved/monogrammed. The handle is completely hand made and it is applied to the bowl with a rat-tail...

This item is made with Chinese silk but was probably made in France and was retailed in Liverpool - unusually complete with its original box which carries a dispatch date of 9th November 1898. A Matched Set of Four George II Silver Open Salts. The Set was assayed in London in 1747, makers mark illegible. The dimensions are 3" across and 1 1/2" high. They stand on three cabriole legs and weigh a total of 9 Troy ounces. There is a small crest in the front of each. Minor imperfections, but in very good condition overall.

On a square pedestal foot, with marks on the underside; for London 1790 and IB (for John Belden). Dimensions; 6.4" to handle; weight 4 Troy ounces. Excellent condition.

This is a rare Victorian sterling diner’s napkin hook with a patent date of 1879. A real conversation starter! Diner’s napkin hooks have been in existence since the 17th century, but were all the rage during the Victorian era. To keep from spilling food on their finery, gentlemen simply attached their napkin to the clip on one end and then put the small hook over the top of their collars. Condition: excellent. Measurement: 2 _ in. long.
