This is quite an unusual mace head from ancient Persia, likely dating to around 1200 BC. It is decorated with incised linear patterns and small spikes. There are 5 spikes on each of three segments. This piece came from a large private collection of axes and spears. It is solid and stable with no apparent repairs or restorations. It weighs 418 grams and measures roughly 13 cm in length.

This is a beautiful and rare copper alloy dagger from the Dong Son culture of southeast Asia circa 250 BCE. It has an attractive patina that belies its high tin content alloy. The edges of the blade are chipped as is common for the brittle nature of high tin content bronze objects. The remaining metal appears to be solid and stable with no signs of repair or restoration. The hollow portion of the perforated handle is filled with either soil or wood remains (or both)...

This is a very high quality casting, depicting Silenus, dating to the 1st-3rd century AD. A substantial casting with very fine detailing and hand-chasing. The handle measures just under 5-1/2" in height and is 3" at its widest. This would most likely have been the handle to an important vessel used during Bacchic (Dionysiac) revels. This is a heavy, substantial piece of very high quality.

Decorated with brown and reddish bands around the body. Near the bottom a reserved band with hooks (stylized running dogs). Brown tongues on neck and collar, brown bars on the handle.
Similar to the Egg of Columbus, this type of flat-bottomed alabastron needs no additional support to stand upright.

The goat springs to right and is seen with one foreleg raised. On the facing side the body of a lion, in a crouched, ready to jump position. The combination of wild goat and lion is rare.

The rim is decorated with facing Oceanus heads alternating with fishes. The finely rendered heads show bushy beards extending to both sides and goat-like ears. The lobster claws expected in the hair of Oceanus are mistakenly rendered as ram horns, the usual attribute for Zeus Ammon.

Ishtar (Akkadian), Astarte (Phoenician), or Inanna (Sumerian) was the most important female deity in Mesopotamia through the second millennium BC. This type of bronze weapon is generally designated as a short sword. It has a substantial midrib with tapering edges. The edges are concave in the upper part and gracefully draw into spikes or wings that extend around either side of the tang. This is a bronze age harpoon from Northern India dating to circa 1500 BC. This magnificent piece weighs 303 grams and measures roughly 249 mm in length (the smallest one I currently have in stock). A wonderfully preserved massive Iron hatch with lock for an oven or a chimney, European, Renaissance, ca. 1480-1520.

The hatch is finely decorated with large attached rosettes and rivets and the still functioning lock ends in a twisted grib in the gothic form. Possibly Danish or Northern German and comes from an esteemed Danish private collection.

A wonderful large Roman terracotta figure Aphrodite of the Anadyomene type, Roman 1st. cent. AD.

Exquisite roman statuette of Venus Anadyomene represented naked, standing, in contrapposto position, with a slight hip caused by the lifting of the right foot. With her elbows bent, she delicately holds back her hair. Her left thigh slightly sustained on a low altar that holds a mantle at the top and presents a bas-relief amphora resting on the front.
