Chinese Jin Dynasty Painted Pottery Filial Piety Tile (AD 1115 - 1234) - Liu Yin

This interesting pottery tile was made during the Jin Dynasty (AD 1115 - 1234) and most likely comes from Shanxi province. It depicts a scene from the story of the Liu Yin, one of the stories of the twenty-four paragons of filial piety:  

Liu Yin lived in the Western Jin period. One winter when he was nine, his mother lost her appetite because she longed to eat jin, which was impossible to obtain in winter...

Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed Pottery Cabinet (16th Century)

A pottery model of a tall wooden cabinet made during the 16th century (c.1550 - 1600). Made from a hard creamy-white pottery and coated in a green glaze that has, in places, acquired a silvery iridescence, a result of very long exposure to moisture. The details suggests this is a model of a cabinet that would have had two opening doors above which are three drawers.

Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) pottery tomb figure depicting a male attendant with short beard and mustache dressed in a belted gown and wearing a red hood. 8 3/4" high. Very good overall condition with cold painted facial features and much original pigment remaining. Typical losses. The flat base is sightly slanted so the figure does not stand upright without a support. From an old Tucson, Arizona collection. Purchased from a California gallery in the 1990s.

Lovely Song Dynasty brown straw glaze jar with four ears. The jar is thin walled and nicely shaped and proportioned. There is expected ware to glaze, but otherwise it is in excellent condition. Fine Chinese Han Dynasty Amber Glazed Pottery Jar (Guan)

Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). Made from a reddish pottery, quite "heavily-potted", and coated in a thick amber glaze of very good colour. Han jars such as this very often have kilns scars to their rims and bases showing that they were fired in the kiln stacked on top of each other.

LIAO Dynasty Terracotta Buddhist Votive Plaque/Amulet, China, AD. 907 - 1125, with very fine details. Nicely mounted on a wooden base. Originates from a group of varied tablet sizes that were excavated, most likely from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, placed there to ensure success and prosperity. Condition: very good, minor inconsequential chip. Size: 2.75" (7 cm.)

Both are made from a fairly high-fired grey pottery and quite "heavily-potted" with the inner surfaces cold-painted in red pigment.
