The beige ground has woven patterns of flowers and butterflies on which different kind of flowers and large butterflies in multicolored silk floss are embroidered. Borders in dark blue bands with embroidered flowers; cuffs in yellow silk ground with embroidered Immortals in garden scenes. Lining in light blue silk. Central frontal opening. Calf-length type: H. 110 cm; W. 144 cm. Qing, 19th cent. Condition: good.

Antique Chinese black dragon and phoenix priest's robe. Roundels embroidered with gold phoenix and dragon with clouds and waves. Silver and gold thread with red and green couching stitches. On the back of the robe there is a peach and jewels and the wheel of life on large back panel. Small overall wear and discoloration. 40" long x 62" sleeve to sleeve. Republic period. Chinese antique wool Pau Tau rug with woven together in a whimsical pictorial composition of a flying crane, deer, and an exaggerated large peony. The Peony is shy and is hiding amongst the craggily rock formation, reminiscent of a Taihu stone. Admits the red sun and swirling clouds, the pine tree stands along, swaying towards the flying crane which is about to land as the prancing deer is on a field of flowers. Antique Chinese robe made from beautiful red silk with auspicious designs of clouds, its interior lined in light blue silk. Its sleeves, collar, and bottom are lined in deep blue silk, with gold thread butterflies and flowers, and bordered with pink, white, yellow, and green auspicious motifs with a blue background. The back of the robe features a large bulb-eyed goldfish at its top and along its bottom are several birds done in coiled, gold thread. Size: 37" height, 62.5" width

This is a late Qing dynasty pufu or surcoat with a rank badge. The pufu is make of silk gauze or kesi for the summer and a heavier satin-silk, sometimes lined with fur, for the winter. The rank badge with the embroidered silvery pheasant is that of a fifth grade or rank of the civil official. It is represented as standing on the pedestal rock facing and looking towards the sun, the imperial symbol of authority...
