Rare porcelain vase with marbled decoration. The oxides are passed randomly to imitate marble.This type of decoration imitating stones is rare, the known examples are most often clumsily executed. Our vase is an exception because the imitation of marble is perfect both in the design of the veins and their color. A Chinese Canton enamel dish vividly panted with two cockerels beside flowers issuing from rockwork within a border of plum flowers, cracked ice, ruyi heads and waves, the reverse with three flower sprays. Qianlong, 18th century. 23 cms diam.
One small area of restoration to the white on the back of the rim. Otherwise in good condition bar the odd usual stress crack.

You are considering a rare and beautiful Archaic Chinese Jade Scepter or Tablet, "Gui," dating to circa 2000BC. The piece measures 7.5 inches (18.5cm) in length and is, as one would expect, carved (drilled and polished) entirely by hand. As the photos will show, the stone is predominantly a gray-green nephrite, with some areas of darker brown. There are "striations" visible on the surface, which may indicate that the piece had been wrapped in a cloth/textile, which left an imprint...

A Northern Chinese black ware dish; Jin to Yuan dynasty. Probably from Henan province. Overall covered in a dark glaze which terminates to the exterior well above the foot. The interior of the dish was fully glazed, then a ring wiped clean for stacking purposes. The dish is decorated to the interior with five evenly spaced splashes of iron-oxide; which have fired reddish brown.

You are considering a massive neolithic nephrite jade ritual (votive) axe, weighing one pound 10 ounces and measuring 6-1/4" in length by 2-1/4" in width and 1-1/4" in thickness (16cm X 6.5cm X 3cm). Predominantly green in color (celadon), there are extensive black and brown areas, indicative of a stone with a large iron content. It would be hard to overstate the beauty of this ritual knife, made from an exquisite mottled green nephrite, with swirls of paler green and brown stone. A Chinese, qingbai glazed, bowl with incised decoration of boys amongst floral scrolls; Southern Song dynasty. The glaze is an attractive pale bluish-green colour.
