A rare and very finely carved gourd container with ivory cover, illustrated and inscribed with the "Peach Blossom Poem" from the famous story "Hong Lou Meng" (the "Dream of the Red Chamber"), dated - "made in the tenth month of the twenty-second year of the Guanxu" - 1897. The cover depicts a dragon amongst clouds in pursuit of a flaming pearl and is signed - "carved by Lu Shu Yi". Condition - there is a stabilized body crack to the gourd - no other damages and no losses...
