This is a fine, 18th century Japanese Netsuke depicting a monk laying on top of Hotei's Bag of Treasures. Wonderful expression with beautiful patina, what has torn golden from use on the bottom. Unsigned. Netsuke measures 1.88 inches (4.8cm) wide, 1.22 inches (3.1cm) deep, and, 0.92 inches (2.4cm) tall. It is in excellent condition.

This is a finely carved 19th century Japanese netsuke depicting a charming dog holding its paws atop a awabi shell while playing with it. Very nice hair work. Eyes inlaid with stag horn. Netsuke measures 1.50 inches (3.8cm) wide, and 1.10 inches (2.8cm) tall. Unsigned.

Japanese Iwami Kurogaki Netsuke: Gama Sennin with Toad This is a finely hand-carved netsuke in Kurogaki (Black Persimmon) wood of a Gama Sennin with a Toad on top of his shoulders, by an unknown artist from the Iwami Province carved sometime during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This early 20th century carved coral netsuke of an Oni (devil) mask is 1 ½” long, 1” wide and ½” thick. It depicts a very nicely carved and impressive Daikijin. One horn has been repaired. Aside from that, it is in great condition.

Antique Japanese tall rectangular form basket for ikebana flower arrangements. Made of split bamboo woven tightly in a vertical zigzag pattern. The corners have larger sections of bamboo that end in four feet. The bamboo has been left it's natural color and acquired an attractive patina over time.

Antique Japanese ikebana basket. Tall, arching handle and round form body made of split bamboo tightly woven in a horizontal chevron pattern. Portions of the handle are wrapped and held together with decorative knots. A wide mouth lends itself to many different arrangement styles.

This Japanese ceremonial Tenmoku style chawan (tea bowl) is a late Meiji period product. It is 5 ½” in diameter at the top, the foot is 1 ½” in diameter and 2” high. It has a very dark brown with white textured spots on the exterior. The base is not glazed and there is a swirl mark in the center. The interior of the chawan is richly colored black, dark brown, light brown and grayish blue. It is in excellent condition.

The early 20th century celluloid netsuke is 2 1/8” in diameter and 5/8” thick. This kind of netsuke is called “Kagamibuta.” It is shaped like a Manju (round doughnut) but with a metal disc serving as a lid to a shallow bowl. The pressed silver alloy disc has a dragon design. It is in excellent condition.

Jurōjin / Gama Deity of Good Luck. Painted with ink and pigments on silk. Signed Tosa no mori Fujiwara Mitsusada and sealed. It is attributed to Tosa Mitsusada.

Hotei, one of the seven lucky gods. Painted with ink on paper. Signed and sealed. It is accompanied by an inscripton authenticating the painting that it is painted by Okamoto Hansuke. It is attributed to Okamoto Hansuke(1575-1657).

Okamoto Hansuke(1575-1657) was a military tactician and calligrapher of the early Edo period. His original surname was Ishigami, and he later inherited the Okamoto clan. He is well known by his given name, Nobunari, and his common name, Hansuke...

The large vase with silver wire cloisonne on ceramic with "tree bark" textured surface. Decoration of butterflies and peonies, with the blooms depicted in enamel tones of sienna, umber and dark mica, and the stems and leaves in dark green - almost black. The body of the vase covered with a dark, warm brown lacquer on intentionally course texture like tree bark - which it emulates. The Kyoto, crackle glazed greyish porcelain body visible from the foot. Taisho era (1912 - 1926). Good condition...

DESCRIPTION: A Japanese Imari porcelain dish, shaped in “double fish” form and decorated in traditional Imari colors with floral designs in rust red, and fish scales and fins in royal blue. The reverse has painted florals and grasses on the four sides. Late 19th/early 20th century, and in excellent condition with no chips or restorations. DIMENSIONS: 10 ½” long (26.6 cm) x 9” wide (23 cm).

Antique Japanese suzuribako (calligraphy writing box) for a merchant. Made of keyaki (elm) wood burl with iron hardware. Two drawers: one for writing implements and one drawer with a lock for keeping money, seals, and important documents safe. A top compartment with a hinged lid would have kept an ink stone.

19th century lacquered boxwood netsuke of a recumbent goat, its head turned back and resting on its haunch. Excellent carving capturing the essence of the creature, wonderful depiction of its coat, eyes are inlaid with amber, excellent wear and patina.. Length 2.07 inches.
