Very elegant porcelain vase from the Fukugawa kilns. The decoration of cranes in flight, a symbol of fidelity and courage, among clouds, adorns the entire perimeter of this vase in enamels of different colors above crashing waves. Signed under the Fukugawa base under a Mount Fuji. Very slight crack, barely visible.Height: 15 cm

Small architectural element, probably part of a tympanum ("torana") of a temple or palace door, of circular shape, carved in relief to represent the Hindu mythical bird Garuda head, flanked with wings, holding the Naga snake in its claws. Wood, with dark-brown encrusted patina. Remnants of red pigment (tika?) on various areas. Mortises at top and bottom sides. Nepal, 17th century, probably earlier. Length: 13 1/4" (34 cm). Henan kiln of Cizhou kiln group is famous for black glaze ware. It is supposed that 4 handles were used to tie up the lid with rope. Condition is almost perfect except some chips. The bottom half decorated on the outside with classic lotus sepals, as used to image a Buddhist lotus dais, in relief. The top half also decorated in low relief in a much more stylized manner...

This is a sodenashi ( sleeveless ) han-juban ( under kimono ) made of hand-spun cotton with katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) and dyed with natural indigo. The jishiro ( white ground ) katazome is left fewer than indigo ground one. The latter half of the 19th century. In good condition except for two small holes in front ( 2cm x 2cm, 8mm x 8mm ), one in the back ( 1cm x 1cm ) and two minor cuts. 40.5cm x 54cm

Pair of bronze Song Dynasty coins with Chinese descriptive note

19th century Japanese Asakusa school staghorn kiseruzutsu - tobacco pipe case - carved with a mountainous landscape and figures of Kanzan reading an open scroll and Jittoku leaning on his broom. According to a legend, Kanzan and Jittoku lived in a kitchen of a Chinese Zen Buddhist monastery and talked nonsensical language, which some took as a sign of them being enlightened. Very clever carving incorporating outer texture of the antler and porous nature of its center as elements of design...

This is a porcelain snuff bottle in cylindrical form with a narrow neck, decorated in underglaze-blue against white. The scene depicts mountains and a flowing river with a fisherman sitting quietly angling on the bank. The stopper is natural tiger eye with a bone or ivory spoon. There are no chips, cracks or restoration.

An old Chinese brass furniture lock. Unusual dog form where the tail closes the clasp in the back of the dogs head. A separate key pushes the tail clasp apart from the dog's body. Three pieces total. Good condition with old, accumulated surface patina. Probably 19th century. Would work nicely for an antique Chinese furniture collector. Length, about 4 1/2 inches from end of the dog's looped tail to tip of its nose (doesn't include any additional extension when the key is inserted)

Statue of a Taoist deity ("fashi"), in formal attire, sitting on a throne, holding his commandment baton in his right hand and a bowl containing the lustral water in his left. Wood, coated with traces of polychrome painting. Votive box at the back, lid missing. China, early 19th century, maybe earlier. Height: 20.7 cm. Abrasion due to age otherwise very good condition.

19th century wooden netsuke representing a theater mask of a man with round bulging eyes and rather insane grin. Probably the mask is that of Kentoku. Crisp detailing, wonderfully captured madness. Height 1 3/4 inches.
