A strong mokogata iron tsuba of tight mokume. I favor mokume work and this is a virtuous example worthy of any collection. Boar's eye sukashi decoration in the four corners. Uchikaeshi mimi. A set of five soba choko, straight sided cups, so called boars mouth cups, decorated with a pattern of a grape vine and a wasp (hachi, bee, wasp or hornet) an autumnal motif. Curiously the grapes have been inverted to resemble the more familiar pomegranate. These would have probably been used for serving sake rather than soba noodles. The cups measure in 8cm diameter and are 6.4cm in height. They are in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or restoration...

An Arita blue & white porcelain dish decorated with a pavilion and poetry, an equestrian and servant in the foreground. The dish is moulded with a shallow ‘rinka’ edge. The back is plain and has three spur marks within the foot-rim.

An identical dish is illustrated in the Shibata Collection Vol.4, #303 where it is dated to 1770~1800.

Approximately 17.8 cm diameter. The dish has some light wear from normal use but is otherwise in fine condition...

It is glazed overall with a semi-transparent brownish-amber glaze with areas of faint purples and reds. Startled to enlightenment, this is a large Edo period figure of a Rakan (Sanskrit: Arhat), a Buddhist saint kozutsucarved in the Yosegi-zaiku method of joined blocks of wood. Originally covered in polychrome colors, much has grayed and flaked away with time, a fitting aspect of the image. He has glass eyes which seem to burn violently with realization. It is a Japanese antique uchishiki of silk (chirimen) of the hand yuzen dye tsutsugaki of the highest class in Edo period. The bold composition of the paulownia is impressive with the Chinese phoenix. Yuzen kimono is also very polite. There are two small repair marks.
