Attractive small 19th Century Thai Rattanakosin Buddha seated in deep meditation (Virasana) on a stepped throne. The Unisa or flame above the head symbolizes attainment of Nirvana or is indicative of supreme knowledge. Very good condition. Size: H. 2.5" x W. 1.5" x D. 1"

Small round zushi consisting of two parts. The outside of both are covered in nashiji lacquer. On the inside of the one part in relief is carved in fine detail the image of Bishamonten holding a trident and a pagoda, subduing two demons. Inside the cover sits Benzaiten playing the biwa.
Bishamon and Benten are two of the seven gods of good fortune (shichifukujin), but they each hold a position in the Buddhist pantheon, as well.
Both images in plain, unpainted camphor wood...

Fine earthenware vase of satsuma decorated with excellently drawn dancers. The positions of the bodies, the volumes and the perfect impression of movement announce a very good painter. Unfortunately it is anonymous because there is no signature. Good condition. Height about 40cm.

19th century Japanese wooden nyoi - a Buddhist scepter - in a form of a branch with bulbous head. Nyoi, or Ruyi scepter is a traditional symbol of scholarship and transmission of knowledge. Natural tree branch with a growth forming the head of the scepter, no carving as such, wonderful patina to the surface from being handled, very pleasant to hold...

This pendant is carved on both sides in the form of a peach hanging from a leafy stem. It is suspended from a twisted gold wire loop from a small pierced hole at the top. The semi-translucent stone is a very pale pink tone with whitish inclusions. Acquired from a Southern Pines, North Carolina estate.
