An antique Japanese hand carved wood Ranma (transom) framed in Hinoki (Cypress) and hand carved in deep relief of Akita Sugi (Northern Cryptomeria) woods. Featuring a complex multi level temple and grounds amidst a a beautiful pine tree forest with mountains and clouds in the foreground and background. Continuous elaborate design on the reverse side of the transom.

Age: Meiji/Taisho Era (1910-1920)

Antique Chinese wardrobe cabinet, made with nice hardwood paneling and inlaid with light boxwood carved scenes depicting scholarly figures in a garden like setting with animals in the trees, calligraphy inlaid on upper portion of each door panel, 19th century. Size: 65 1/2" high x 36 3/4" wide 23" deep

Two silver teapots, both with strainer and hinged cover on pouring spout. Beautifully made with floral decoration, the knobs in bud-shape. Both marked "ZR800". Provenance: Swiss-Dutch family living in Indonesia in the first half of the 20th C. Condition: few traces of usage. Dimension: large teapot: c. 22.3 cm high, 17.8 cm wide, weight: 607 g, small one: c. 15.4 cm x 12.4 cm, weight: 417 g. Total weight: 1.024 kg.

A small globular porcelain vase with short neck, unglazed base and decorated with an score design. The scores emphasized with underglaze cobalt blue. Late Ming Dynasty, sixteenth century. H: 5 cm. Diameter: 4,9 cm. Condition: Perfect.

A pair of lacquered iron abumi (Japanese stirrups) decorated in fine gold and nashiji (pear skin) lacquer on a roiro urushi, black lacquer ground. Each carries a Tokugawa aoi crest (three hollyhock leaves in a circle) within scrolling leaf background, the bottom constructed with wood pieces within an iron frame which made it lighter, thus gave a better control. Edo period (17th/18th century).  9" high, 5 1/4" wide.

Meiji Era futon-ji; indigo dyed cotton with tsutsugaki (free-hand drawn resist) image of the Three Friends of Winter: Pine, Bamboo, and Plum. L.150cm(59") x W.128cm(50"). Such bedding covers were given as part of a bride's dowry, commissioned with auspicious images or a family crest by the bride's family...

Hemp furoshiki (wrapping cloth) made of hemp whose warps and wefts are hand-plied. It is dyed with vegetable indigo. It has many original mending patches, holes and worn out. The second half of the 19th century. W:105cm, L:112cm

A beautiful 19th C. Chinese turquiose vase with dragon flying on both sides. Marked with CHINA (spelling was interesting). On the bottom has a little chip (Pls. see the photo)otherwise in excellent condition. H:8-1/2"

A bronze mirror, wakyo, decorated with a classic Autumn pattern that evolved in the Heian period which features a pair of birds, sparrows, water weeds, ashi, water, and a wave washed sandy beach, suhama. The design is cut by a single ring. The design of the inverted pistil boss and the density of the design, horror vacui, dates the mirror to the late Kamakura period 1275-1325. A great deal of the detail has been lost as a result of wear and over polishing...

This is hemp Umakake used in Iwate for Edo period. As for this, hemp is spun by hand and is thick. This item is a state of the most common damage about hemp Umakake. When Umakake is used many times, damage increases. And the hemp added to a good texture when use and washing were repeated many times. The good-quality natural indigo plant becomes the color such as this item...

Exceptional Chinese highly carved cabinet made entirely of solid Huanghuali wood, carved with vases and flower arrangements, scrolling vines and key fret motif, two compartments closed with cabinet doors, three small drawers in the middle. Republic Period.

Size: 76.75" height x 35.375" length x 15.75 deep.

A small thinly potted wine or tea cup delicately painted in shades of underglaze blue with traditional Chinese landscape scenes. The cup is bound with a metal (copper) rim, apparently made to cover a burst glaze bubble. On the base is a four character shop mark which reads "Shun Li Kun Ji". The makers mark was in use during the late Qing / early Republic period so we assume that this item was made during the late 19th or early 20th Century. Condition - very good - no damages and no restoration...

An antique Japanese 2 section tall Kyoto Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made entirely of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware with Warabite handles. Copper sliding door handles. Top section features two sliding doors behind which is a spacious storage area where store books and records were kept and below which are 5 drawers...

A fine and substantial Roman terra sigillata pitcher, probably Nothern Africa, c. 4th. cent. AD.

Attractive vessel in a nice redish colour, low slung discus-shaped type, probably for wine.

Size: 16 cm. tall and 15,5 cm. wide of the fat belly.

Condition: Good Very fine, much preserved red slip and only a few tiny chips to the very rim.

An example of “Kenjo” Imari presentation ware, having high quality enamel decoration in reds, green, aubergine and gilding surrounding underglaze cobalt blue. There is a fine, lightly stained crackle to the interior and exterior base. This piece was made for domestic use in Japan and was not intended for export. Overall good condition. Purchased in Kyoto ca. 1974.

Late 18th to early 19th century bronze suigaraake (ashtray) netsuke in classic bowl shape, its outside cast with a gnarled branch of a flowering prunus tree. Very well designed piece, good detailing, functional netsuke shape, himotoshi (cord opening) formed by a raised part of the branch. Nice old piece with pleasant patina on metal. Diameter 1 9/16 inches.

Central American Pre Columbian Terracotta Pot, the rim may have some restoration , the shoulder of the pot has what looks like faces with arms wrapped around face . Size Diameter is 6" H 3.75"
