Fine & Rare Chinese Southern Song Dynasty Qingbai Glazed Porcelain Dish (with carved & moulded decoration)

This attractive porcelain dish, or shallow bowl, was made during the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 1127 - 1279). It is coated in a finely-crackled pale greenish translucent qingbai glaze, save for the rim and flat base that remain intentionally unglazed...

A rare and wonderful bronze mortar, Baroque period of Northern Europe, 18th. century.


The mortar is inscribed with owners initials O: H: S:, M: L: and the clear date 1769, the mortar is likely somewhat older, early 18th. century and made in a bronze allow, not brass that became popular later in the 18th. century.

The mortar comes with the original Pestle and was part of the inventory (Exebition) of a Swedish Farmacy.

Highly interesting collectors lot of three different types of stamp seals, Anatolia, 3rd.-1st. millenium BC.

The lot includes a scarce 2nd. millenium Hittite type of 4-side stamp with 4 different impressions of humans and plants, a triangular seal with a knob handle and engraved with a floral pattern and lastly, a cone-shaped seal with round base engraved with scriptssigns(?). All carved in black serpentine.

Fine Chinese Han Dynasty Amber Glazed Pottery Jar (Guan)

Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). Made from a reddish pottery, quite "heavily-potted", and coated in a thick amber glaze of very good colour. Han jars such as this very often have kilns scars to their rims and bases showing that they were fired in the kiln stacked on top of each other.

19th century Korean porcelain water dropper (used for diluting ink) in a shape of curled carp. According to a Chinese legend, a carp that can swim up the waterfall turns into a dragon, and thus serves as a paragon of perseverance, especially in scholarly pursuits. Free potting with nice depiction of fish’ scales, very nice underglaze blue wash, 2 openings for water. Old compressed dust on the surface, some scratching as to be expected, wonderful patina, overall in great shape...

Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) Japanese ceramic Oribe ware chaire (tea caddy for storing powdered green tea used in tea ceremony) with two mock handles. Comes with very well made shifuku (silk brocade storage bag). Characteristic rich green glaze on the top, beautiful underglaze brown painting of fern sprigs on one side and plant shoots and brocade patterns on the other, wonderful finely crackled glaze...

Early 19th century Japanese cloisonne plate decorated with a butterfly in flight over blooming peony bushes, all within a brocade border. Rare Art Inc. sticker on the back, bold powerful design, rare and early piece in terms of Japanese cloisonne, from the period of transition from Chinese to Japanese style. The back is decorated with a typical Japanese scrolling design. Very pleasant matte finish with original pitting. Diameter 7 5/16 inches.

1600s or earlier

This figure has old losses to both forearms. The features are worn and it is blackened overall from incense and candle smoke, but it has a pleasant, soft patina. A metal nimbus was originally attached to the back with a small strip of metal that still remains. Acquired in Kyoto in the early 1970s.

A Chinese porcelain brush washer with a flambe ox blood glaze and the splashed colors of red, white and blue. The pot was for the use of a scholar to clean his brush when doing calligraphy. The washer is six sided and measures about 2" tall x 2 1/2" in diameter. This is another example of the ox blood glaze, during the 19th Century, running in the kiln, which made in necessary to break the piece from the kiln. Authentic antique 19th-century Indonesian-Javanese wayang topeng mask. It is finely carved from exotic wood, possibly Kelana wood, and has a naturalistic expression, with pierced eyes and nose. The mask's hair is sculpted and adorned with elaborately carved and gilt ornament, while the lacquer finish is applied with a natural hair mustache and Mica teeth.
