Satsuma Miniature Teapot Signed Kozan, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
The teapot is 1.75 inches (4.5 cm) tall by 4.5 inches (11 cm) wide.
It is in good condition with no repairs, or cracks, except rubbing of gold and a chip at the underside of the lid (as seen in the photos).
This teapot is being feature at the Architectural Digest's May 2006 issue, page 140 under "Great Design Japan."

A rare very well carved soapstone sculpture of Lui Hai in traditional pose ensnaring the three -legged toad with a string of cash. This item was made circa 1750 - 1800 during the reigns of either the Qianlong or the Jaiqing Emperors. The tip of one finger is missing and there is an old glued repair - most visible on the upper foot. Little of the original paintwork is now visible.

Fine Satsuma Blue Ground Vase, finely decorated in two shaped panels one with figures in a garden and the other with tea ceremony objects. The blue ground with butterflies and scattered flowers. Signed in gilt and impressed Kinkozan. Height 14.4 cm. C1900. Condition; excellent.
Antique Chinese porcelain figure of one of the Three Star Gods (Longevity, Prosperity, Happiness). This is the God of Longevity, or the Shou star, with wonderful and elaborate famille-rose enamel glaze of peaches and auspicious characters. The shoo star is said to have been in his mother's womb for ten years before birth, at which time he was an old man. His face is accented with pierced through areas on his ears, nostrils, and facial hair...

Antique Chinese hardwood ancestral carving of a seated scholar. He wears a gilt robed with elaborately carved designs and jewel accents, and highlights of red, green, and blue pigment. His face sports real hair, and he holds a hair ink brush in his hand. Very charming.

A rare Song dynasty longquan celadon large dish with twin large and small fish motif, rounded side with flattened rim and glazed base, dish decorated with large twin fish motif at the center and raising lotus petal motif at exterior, dish covered with green glaze.
Dish is in good condition with original kiln defect on larger fish, no crack, no chip, no restoration, porcelain with high ping sound with finger tip.

A good Song Yuan longquan celadon large bowl, rounded side with deep center and glazed base, small foot and domed shape body, bowl covered with light green glaze.
Bowl is in good condition no chip, no crack, no restoration, semi porcelain crackled at glaze surface.

A very rare yab-yum bronze from the end of the 19th. century ( Qing Dynasty 1644 - 1912 ), acquired for the van Norten collection in the early 30's of the last century in Sichuan showing the male deity in sexual union with his female consort. Yab-yum means Tibetan literally 'father - mother'.

Late 19th century Chinese carved rosewood standing Shou-Lao. The long-bearded old man is surrounded by an acolyte riding a deer and a crane. He is holding a long staff in one hand and a branch of peaches in the other. Good condition. H: 15 inches, W: 6 ½ inches

From our Japanese Collection, a superb Kinkozan satsuma vase of tapered ovoid form, Meiji Period 1868-1912, most likely 1880-1890, depicting a finely painted bijin on one panel along with finely painted roosters and flying birds in a garden setting on the other panel. Both main panels are separated by reserves of elaborate gilt work set against a rich cobalt blue ground. Kinkozan signature and impressed mark on the bottom...

An antique Chinese dehua (also known as blanc de chine) of a man riding a donkey-like animal. Unlike the normal subject matter often produced in dehua porcelain, the figure is not dressed in a Chinese manner, but in a European style. The back contains two seals: the gourd shaped seal reads: dehua and the square seal is possibly the artist name, which translates as: seal of Ke Qianzhong. Age: Late 19th -20th century. Antique Japanese large oribe bowl with cream crackle glaze, short basket style handles with bright blue-green glaze dripping down the sides of the bowl, designs of wavy lines and dots along the rim, bold floral patterns on the interior, swirling pattern on the foot. A truly beautiful piece.
