EDO PERIOD JAPANESE SAMURAI YOROI KABUTO ZUNARI HELMET WITH SHIKORO

EDO Period Japanese Samurai Yoroi Zunari (Head shaped) Kabuto helmet. Multiple piece Hachi (bowl) construction. Some of original lacquer remains (on the outer shikoro). Four-piece Shikoro (Neck guard of a helmet). Original Shikoro blue-color lace. Original oharaidate (a rectangular hollow socket used to hold a maedate of a kabuto) intact for frontal Datemono (helmet crest) fastening. Gold color paint added later...

This is an ancient Etruscan Impasto Jug with double handles, c. 650 BC. It has a few old chips from use but is otherwise intact. It is 5" tall x 4.25" wide (12.5 cm x 11 cm)and is from an old Dutch collection, possibly from Latium. A ribbed and pleasing shape.

A fine and rare MING DYNASTY JARLET with craquelé light brown glaze and splashes of blue and white glaze here and there. The base is also glazed except for the resting ring on the base. Found in the MUSI RIVER, close to Palembang City, which was the Capital of the SRIVIJAYA KNGDOM and which had a vast trade network with China and Siam. Condition overall good, one inconsequential chip on the lip of the top ring. Size:height 13 cm x 13 cm. diameter at the center. Rare Collector's item!

Amazing boro sodenashi (sleeveless) noragi, whose ground cloth as well as mending patches are mostly vegetable indigo dye cotton cloth. Some of sashiko yarns are indigo dye hemp. Late 19th century. It is from Niigata prefecture. W:62cm, L:80cm

A nice repousse silver box from Burma. A beautiful carving of a bust of a woman on the lid. A leaf design surrounding the body of the box. Size: H: 7cm. W. 7.7cm. Condition. Very fine. No repairs.

Chinese horizontal panel carving with red lacquer and gilt accenting. A strong central figure stands with a person kneeling before him, and two heavenly figures on horseback to either side. Many other smiling figures gather closely while tree branches hang from below. The panel is framed and bordered in soft velvet. Size: 30.5" length, 12.25" height, 2.5" width

The lid decorated on both sides with a winged Eros seated on a rock and facing left. One figure holds up a mirror with his right hand, the other carries a dish with double hooks, a sash suspended underneath. Flowers in the field.
One Eros wears a kekryphalos with a bun at rear, the other a pointed cap. Both carry earrings, necklaces, bracelets, strings of beads around the chest, the left thigh and anklet, as well as sandals.
The figures are separated by palmettes...

Attractive oval stamp seal, almost the shape of a scaraboid but much older belonging to the Uruk period of North-Western Mesopotamia, c. 4th. mill. BC.

The seal engraved with an interesting motif of integrated animals (see Id card for a description.

Important Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) sutra container from a San Francisco dealer who has been in business for over 40 years. This sutra container came to us as part of a group which belonged to the Avery Brundage Collection. There is a remnant of an old Brundage collector’s seal on the outside rim of the container as seen in the photographs...

Antique Tibetan repousse plaque depicting a flying Kinnara or Apsara, celestial beings similar to the Western concepts of angels. The high relief image is done with gold gilt over copper with natural patina from oxidation.

Chinese jadeite pendant, carved into a bottle gourd with two delicate chimeras climbing along the sides. Greyed green coloration of the bottom and lavender white at the top. 18KT gold fixture at the top to hang as a pendant. Size: 1.25 " x 1/2"

A decorative Temmoku glazed bowl with a raised decoration of a Dragon and Lingzhi. Most probably Japanese and probably from the seventeenth or eighteenth century. There is an incised signature to the piece which could give final clarity to the educated among us. Diameter : 13,2 cm. H : 6,8 cm. Condition : Perfect

19th century Chinese fingering piece in a form of a natural Manchurian nut. Excellent piece to use for meditation practice with natural design, richly textured surface, superb warm patina from more than 100 years of handling, very pleasant to hold. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Length 1.92 inches.

A tiger sits tensed on a pine tree. The fearsome advance of the beast is suggested by the powerfully hunched shoulders, the placing of its feet, which all emphasize the animal's size and strength. Painted with ink on silk. The signature reads Ganryo and sealed. Kishi Ganryo (1798-1852) was a Kyoto based painter active during late Edo period, 19th century. He was trained under Kishi Ganku, who was a noted Japanese painter of the late Edo period and founder of the Kishi school of painting...

Unusual Chinese temple corbel made of hand carved wood. With black, red, and gilt lacquer pigments, carved with the head of a dragon, a bird, and flora. Very interesting style of carving, similar to that of Mayan imagery.

Antique Indian painting of a holy man seated upon a throne, identified by the halo around his head, a line of followers standing before him. The first man in line bestows a ceremonial gift, painted with gilt pigment. Two men stand out of line with a domesticated jaquar. Arabic writing decorates the top and the bottom of the painting. Set in a gilt frame. Size: (entire frame) 10.75" height, 7.25" width (artwork only) 6.5" height, 3" width

Antique Chinese bronze hanging bell with beautiful casting and patina. It hangs by a hook shaped as a two-headed serpent, and its sides are decorated with phoenixes (fenghuang in Chinese, ho-o in Japanese) flying with their head downwards and their long, beautiful tail feathers floating up and over their bodies. The phoenix is a bird of the Sun, so a small Sun adorns two sides of the bell, along with curling motif running along the bottom. Size: 6.5" height, 4.75" width

Large Japanese Kutani serving bowl featuring 2 separate scenes. In very good antique condition, there is some minor fritting around the outer edge of the rim. This rare Japanese bowl measures 10 inches in diameter and about 3.25" high. Dates late Edo, Circa 1800.
