This is a great archetype of ghurra, showing an interlace of ropes which local name is netti, so in some areas "Netti" becomes the generic name for Ghurras. Until the mid 1900's, transporting goods along the silk road was accomplished by camel caravans ...and it was important not to lose the camels in sand storms along the way... Each camel from Tibet was "adorned" with 3 bells...one large bell hang from a strap around the camel's belly, a 2nd bell was strapped around the neck, and the 3rd bell was hung from the camels tail. This old camel's bell was used on the caravans travailing between Tibet, across China and into Mongolia...

Two Tibetan bone carvings of dancing Dakinis from a ceremonial bone apron. One Dakini carries a chopper, kapala (skull cup) and a skull scepter; the other holds a kapala in her left hand. Both have large scrolling swirls carved above and below them. The backs have numerous holes for stringing. The bone is probably from a Yak. Period: 18th/19th Century. Size: 16cm & 17cm. W. Both 4cm. Vajradhara or Dorje Chang in Tibetan is the ultimate primordial Buddha or Adi Buddha according to the Gelug and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This fine example is from Tibet or possibly from Nepal. It is well proportioned and has very nice facial features. Please note the fine engraving on the back of the figure.
