A fantastic sculptured vase by the outlandish Fujioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaire. A frenzied stack of rugged corners like the fallen away sides of a mountain revealing the earth’s structure beneath a layer of green. It is likely Fujiokasan is inspired by the brawny, rain drenched and forested mountains surrounding the town of Iga, where the Mountains formed a natural line of defense for the secret clans of Ninja who called the valley their home.

Liquid white gold glaze spills out of the parched earth clay of this tea bowl by Ogawa Machiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Wan and Circa( 2021). The clay itself is smooth and thick, however the bowls seem to have been formed while the clay was half dry, creating a parched sensation which is especially poignant when thinking of imbibing in the libations of rice. Form and void are everything with Wada Akira, and this piece is a fine example of that idea. Charred ash deposits are baked into the side of this large Tsubo by Shigaraki Representative Otani Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. This classical ,generous and inviting teabowl chawan is by legendary Hagi master potter; Yoshiga Taibi (1915-1991). The sumptuous form is highlighted with a thin ash glaze over the rich hagi clay and crackled slip with tones running from Hagi creamy pink to lavender with the gritty clay visually punctuating the foot/kodai. This is a bowl of profound subtleties and though it may sound cliché, this chawan looks many times better in person than my poor photography can show.
