Classical chawan in the Kuro-Bizen style by the late master potter, Isezaki Mitsuru. This chawan exhibits a blackened, charcol fired exterior with ash sprinkled about the face and covering the interior floor of the bowl. the foot is exceptionally well cut and very crisp and his mark is prominently featured in the interior of the foot ring.

This chawan is in good, original condition, measures 5.25" x 3.4" and comes complete with its original signed box.

Here are two especial sculptural Shino shell forms by Goto Hideki enclosed in their original signed wooden boxes and date to 2019.

I cannot help be see the incense stick burns in a Buddhist altar cloth when I look at this Shino Chaire by Wakao Toshisada which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box.  Inevitably as more sticks of incense are added to a koro, some will break and fall onto the altar cloth, smoldering as they disappear into smoke, leaving only a fleeting scent and shadow-like scar in the drapery.  If one has ever been deep into the darkness of a temple, you may know the quiet feeling of contemplation...

Well fired and purposeful wood fired chawan by Aomori potter, Imai Rikei fired in the longest kiln in Japan at over 103 meters long (as certified by the folks at Guinness Records). This chawan appears to defy gravity as all of the ash runs up the pot culminating in spots in deep, brown-green bidoro drips as the chawan was fired upside down where the bottom and foot of the bowl are covered in ash making for a satiny smooth surface...

A deep wan-gata bowl swept with swirling Zen brush-strokes over earthen glaze by veteran female artist Shigemori Yoko enclosed ina wooden box titled O-Chawan (Big Tea Bowl). It is 13.5 cm (5-1/4 inches) diameter, 9.5 cm (just less than 4 inches) tall and in perfect condition, directly from the artist’ family and comes enclosed in a wooden box annotated by her nephew.

Five serene white concave disks set on unique bases by Kato Yoshiyasu enclosed in the original signed and compartmentalized wooden box titled Asobi Kodai Hai, Gokyaku Soroi (Playful Foot Five Sake Cup Set). A tea bowl with stunning glaze by the legendary Miyashita Zenji 宮下善爾 (1939-2012), one of the greatest contemporary Kyoto potters. This is an early work, when he focused on celadon-like glazes. At that time he was studying ancient Chinese pieces, and was influenced by his father who excelled in celadon. His tea bowls are not common, and purple ones are quite rare. Every facet is unique on this natural torn shape by Kishimoto Kennin enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaike ‘Honoka’ or Fire Flower. It is much like a flower in clay, rising up from the bulb, the flowers placed into it the extension of the stalk. It is 32.5 cm (12-3/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

A breathtaking work in perfect green porcelain glaze by Shimada Fumio enclosed in the original sined wooden box titled Seihakuji Budo-cho mon Tsubo (Celadon Tsubo Carved with Grape Designs). It was exhibited at the Shimada Fumio Sakuto 40 Shunen ten and Gendai Kogei Fujino Ten (2014). The vase is 20 cm (8 inches) diameter, the same height, and is in excellent condition.
Shimada Fumio is undoubtedly one of the greatest artists working in porcelain in Japan today...
