Blasted and dripping Guinomi withe,a fantastic sculptured Tokkuri by Fujioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden boxes titled Iga Tokkuri and Iga Guinomi respectively. Charred shadows under score the deep green glass pools on the surface, raw earth studded with inclusions burnt red.

An outlandish image of bright autumn color decorates this set of sake flask and cup by Ito Motohiko enclosed in the original signed wooden boxes titled simply Tokkuri and Guinomi respectively.  Typical of this artists work, the vessels display a textured cloth surface called nunome, the raw clay decorated with bright large images of natural motifs.

White porcelain cups ideal for sipping sake or whiskey, by Hanako Nakazato of Union, Maine and Karatsu, Japan. H. 2.25"(5.75cm) x Dia. 1.75"(4.5cm.) Hanako Nakazato is a 14th generation potter from Japan. The Nakazato family is a well-known pottery family in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, with the 12th generation Nakazato Taroemon being designated a National Living Treasure for Karatsu ceramics. Serene yuteki temmoku conical chawan made in the Chinese taste, though Japanese. The chocolaty oil spots float on the darker iron glaze as if suspended, or frozen in motion. A large deep bowl decorated in abstract underglaze blue imagery by Shibata Ryozo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sometsuke Hachi and dating cica 1995. It is 28 cm (11 inches) diameter, 14 cm (5-1/2 inches) deep and in excellent condition.
Shibata Ryozo (b. 1952) completed advanced studies at the Kyoto Municipal University of Arts in 1978 (his work was purchased by the university the previous year for its permanent collection)...

Wow I need that! is all I could say the first time I saw this piece by Furutani Taketoshi while visiting the Churokuen Kiln early this year. The tendrils of natural ash glaze wrap around the simplified form like the roots of some ancient Shinboku (God Tree). It is unpretentious, but stands out clearly as a masterpiece by this very talented young potter.
