Rich and elegant kannyu, crackled layer, seiji celadon by Furukawa Toshio. This chawan, very much in the style of Shimizu Uichi has a beautiful seiji glaze over a perfectly thrown iron clay body.

Furukawa Toshio (b. 1949) is well known for his celadon and copper red pottery and he has been widely exhibited and illustrated both in and outside of Japan.

This chawan measures 5.7" X 2.75" and is in perfect condition and comes with its original artist signed box.

A perfect Tetsu-E chawan of highest quality by greatest Shoji Hamada, enclosed in its originally signed wooden box. The chawan has a beautiful tetsu-e brushwork design.

Hamada Shoji (1894 - 1978) was one of the founding fathers of the Studio Pottery movement, who came over to England with his friend, Bernard Leach, to start the Leach Pottery in St. Ives, Cornwall back in 1920. Like Leach, Hamada did not come from a pottery background but had studied ceramics briefly in Tokyo...

The creator of this extraordinary work, Shibuya Deishi, is best known for his works of “Oni-hagi”—typically made with rough clay and heavy dripping glazes. This piece by contrast seems delicately crafted and has a very soft and warm quality to it. The feldspar covering this unusual torn and ragged Incense Burner by Hayashi Shotaro enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Manyosai Koro . Marbleized pinks, molten iron blending with rust, moss green and everything in between can be seen in this amazing onslaught of color. His designation “Manyosai” comes from the ancient selection of poetry named after the infinite shades of fallen leaves. We can easily see in this piece how he chose the epithet...

Exquisite kiln effects mark this Ujoyaki Tsubo by Imai Rikei from Aomori Prefecture enclosed in the original signed wooden box named Zuiha (Swirling wave). It is 33 cm tall, 29 cm diameter and in excellent condition. Imai Rikei was born in Aomori Prefecture in 1947, and fires in the Ujoykai traditional manner making use of the worlds longest climbing kiln (guiness book of world records, 103 meters long, you can see it on youtube)...

A superb example of the chameleon versatility of Matsuzaki Ken is this red tea bowl dolloped with thick white glaze enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kurogane Shino-Chawan.  It is strongly formed, with russet iron highlighting the borders between the fields of red and white glaze.  Truly a spectacular work.

Exceedingly well fired Shigaraki mizusashi resembling two ash covered stacked stones. This ash and charcoal covered mizusashi is an enigma. The signature is illegible but the piece is obviously a work of one of the most talented Shigaraki potters of the post-war period. Possibly Furutani Michio, Ueda Naokata or Juho, Sugimoto Sadamitsu or at least someone of that caliber. I will leave the sleuth work to the next owner.This piece is positively medieval in appearance...

A traditionally crafted Bizen sake cup shaped in the tradition of Oribe. The rich mineral glaze gives this guinomi an almost a metallic look.
