The sides are scorched from flame on this large, flattened ball form tsubo by Koie Ryoji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The raw Shigaraki earth is scored with strikes from a paddle and deep gouges from the artist fingers. The Tsubo is roughly 8 inches (20.5 cm) tall, the same diameter. Large haikaburi style mizusashi with areas of running green and blue-green ash running down the pot. This piece was made by veteran tea potter; Suzuki Hideo.

It may be of interest that this mizusashi bares a numbered tag attached to the base of the pot and indicates that this piece was in an exhibition.

Robust, medieval styled mizusashi by veteran Shigaraki potter; Furutani Churoku IV (b. 1922). This face of this large mizusashi is covered in a wonderful layer of green ash and the back exhibits very fine hi-iro fire color. The base shows three areas where the pot was wadded during the firing and it is prominently signed; CHUROKU.

It should be noted, that currently his tea pieces sell for between 250,000 and 450,000 yen in galleries.

The glaze on this sculpted form by The Bear of Echizen Kumano Kuroemon (also Kurouemon) is covered in the most fantastic crustations of glaze. Thick white over scarred red over shatterd black on an unconventional shape the artist has titled marukawara (round tile). It has Tomo everything, Artists history, wrapping cloth, with his ubiquitous calligraphy all over the signed box. The piece is 29 x 17 x 8 cm (11-1/2 x 6-1/2 x 3 inches) and is in perfect condition.

Enigmatic lines score the martian landscape of this large slab platter by innovative Japanese artist Teramoto Mamoru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The slab measures 53.5 x 16.5 x 5 cm (21 x 6-1/2 x 2 inches) and is in perfect condition. The box itself is a testament toteh value placed on it by the artist, double the thickness of a usual box and of a fine grade of kiri. An unusual vase with rough, pebble textured pink glaze over scratched in cranes by one of Japans most important post-war artists, Shinkai Kanzan, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The shape and the design are exactly what we would expect from Kanzan, the coloring going even a step beyond. The texture is like unpolished jewels, the inside of a geode; very pleasing to the hands. Large blue & white, sometsuke chawan with a vivid pine branch, matsu, stretching across the bowl. This chawan is by Kondo Hiroshi, son of Kondo Yuzo, Living National Treasure. Working in his father's unique style, Kondo Hiroshi is very well exhibited, collected and published in Japan and abroad.

Lovely and rich blue and white, sometsuke plate set by Juyo Mukei Bunkazai; Kondo Yuzo. This sometsuke set is made of porcelain with underglaze gosu blue, each plate is decorated with a kaki-zu, persimmon design and is signed on the reverse.

Living National Treasure,Kondo Yuzo was arguably, the one of the finest sometsuke artists of the 20th century. He is most readily identified with his persimmon design, akin the Hamada Shoji and his sugercane motif.

Very nice boxed Aka-Raku chawan with black reduction accents on the face of the bowl by an unidentified potter, circa 1990.

This chawan is in excellent condition, measures 5" X 3.5" and comes with its signed boxed.

Though I could not identify this potter, the box seal and seal on the chawan are an exact match. What I can say is that this is not an apocryphal mainline raku chawan and is not by Sasaki Shoraku, Ohi Choraku or some of the other usual suspects. Priced accordingly.

Very nice set of small kaiseki or sushi plates from the Bishu-gama kiln made by Bizen potter Yamamoto Soshu (Munehide).

Each small plate is in perfect condition, measures 3.75" x .75" and is cleared marked on the reverse and has a bota-mochi style decoration on the face of each piece. No box.

Wonderful Oribe set of iron decorated plates by veteran potter, Yamaguchi Jusetsu. Vivid green Oribe glaze and whispy iron decoration make this set very usable across a wide variety of uses including tea ceremony. Yamaguchi's works are widely exhibited and published in Japan and abroad.

Elegant Hagi chawan with white to faint lavender ash glaze over slip and daido clay body. Classic turned foot, kodai with cut notch and impressed seal.

Though marked, I have been unable to read the seal and identify the potter. What I can say is this chawan is definitely post-war, circa 1960 -1970 and very much resembles the works of Sakakura Shinbei XII and Saka Koraizaemon XII from that time period.

This bowl measures 5" X 3.25" and is in great condition. No Box.
