Large jar or vase by Kirk Mangus (American, 1952-2013) free form with slip and incised decoration in the form of two fishes (one large, one small, the large fish going after the small of course). Signed "Mangus" and inscribed "xox" bottom. Probably from the late eighties but could be earlier. Roughly 9" high and 8" across. Kirk Mangus is an internationally recognized American artist and ceramicist.
A magnificent Shigaraki vase by Furutani Kazuya enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Konsei Hanaire (Blended Clay). The mixed earth creates a unique texture with green ash and burnt red where it has been licked by flame, yet remains pale from the shadows of the kiln, each side is unique, and there is never a dull moment.
