Oil on canvas landscape of a busy scene I believe to be along the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia, 13" by 25" as framed in narrow blond ash, signed at lower right by Torpedo Art Center artist ANNE B. LANDRY. Some internet research enabled me to identify the artist. Landry is a New Orleans native and graduate of Newcomb Art School at Tulane there, who after some time in the corporate world in New York elected to move to the Washington, D.C...

Engraving, by the noted AEGIDIUS SADELER (1570-1629), possibly titled "Cottage Partly Built on Piles", from set of six landscapes, after a painting by the noted Flanders Golden Age artist, ROELANT SAVERY (1576-1639). Savery was an important Old Master of the Netherlands, and his original paintings sell for large sums at auction. Sadeler was a talented engraver, in demand by various artists who wished to have their original works translated into graphics...

Mortimer Menpes, English, 1860-1938, "Interior of St Maclou, Rouen". This etching by Mortimer Menpes measures 12 3/8 x 6 3/8 inches, pencil signed, c. 1902, edition of 50, looking towards the Gothic Baldachin. Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself.

Nicolas Mignard, French, 1606-1668, "Athena Advises Odysseus". Etching by Nicolas Mignard after the frescoes of Annibale Carracci depicting scenes from Homer's Odyssey. Plate size 11 3/4 x 13 5/8 inches, published by Pierre Mariette in 1637, with lettering in Latin below the image. Printed on a very early watermarked laid type paper.

Really well executed watercolor of a classic American town's streets and buildings, as seen from a bird's eye view on a gray, snowy winter day, 14" by 11 1/2" inside the present mat, unframed, signed at lower left by artist Warren Blackwell, and dated there 1948. It is surprising that there seems to be no information available on the artist, as his handling of the medium is so skilled and advanced...

Joseph Pennell, American, 1857-1926, "Waterloo Bridge and Somerset House". A beautiful architectural cityscape by master printmaker, Joseph Pennell. Measuring 8 x 11 inches, it is pencil signed with publishers label on the backing. Created in 1905 in an edition of probably 75, cat: Wuerth #379. Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography...

Gouache on paper, 19" by 12" (29" by 22" as nicely framed in complementary silver and gray), the subject "Iceland Poppies" written in pencil at lower left in addition to the artist's signature and what looks to be "61" as the date of execution--it's very small and hard to read. This is a rather typical example of the work of the noted California artist, JOAN IRVING (BRANDT) 1916-1995. It is very impressionistic and spontaneous and sure in execution, and in very fresh, excellent condition...
