A Fine Etching from the Early Texas Artist, Clara Caffrey Pancoast (1872-1959). Pancoast was a student of Jose Arpa and taught at the Art Colony in Alpine. Matt opening measures about 4 3/8" by 6 3/8", overall frame about 8 1/8" by 10 3/4".

The bottom margin states this is 39/777 but did Maki really do that many and if so where are they? This is a late-in-life Maki print. Where did this idea come from? A sunflower! I know van Gogh did quite a few famous paintings depicting many sunflowers, all realistic paintings. The Japanese printmaker Tadashi Nakayama did many different takes on Sunflowers. From our European Collection, a lovely and substantially-sized 19th century nautical oil painting of ships in a European port, signed and dated S. Brade 1871. This painting is in excellent condition with only the typical fine craquelure expected in paintings of its age. UV light inspection suggests possible small random areas of touch-up to the sky, but otherwise this piece has survived well in fine original, essentially unrestored condition.
