One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) this is a sketch in soft pencil on paper, the drawing, very simply framed just for protection purposes (no glass), measuring 15 1/2" by 19 1/2", signed at lower left, not dated but probably 1940's. The subject appears to be a European village with figures. The drawing is by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968)...

This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on the terrace of a palace. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. The trellised outer border which surrounds the painting itself is embellished with what appears to be metallic silver highlights. The painted area within the trellised frame measures 4-1/4" X 8"...

A hand colored lithograph showing in the distance the fortress of Kalat-i-Ghilzaiin Afghanistan. In the foreground to the left are a group of women seated on the ground and to the right a group with two camels, one with a rider, a goat and a man with a rifle. The lithograph is after a drawing by Lt. James Rattray who helped relieve the besieged garrison of Kalat-i-Ghilzaiin in 1842...

This is a relatively modern Buddhist painting, done entirely by hand, depicting Lhamo, a Buddhist protector deity. Exceptionally well painted, as the photos will show, this painting was most probably done in Nepal. The painting itself, excluding the cloth "mount," measures 16" X 21". Given the quality of the painting, my sense is that even though relatively modern, the piece was in fact intended for devotional purposes and not as an item of trade...

Proportion 10 is an exciting Maki offering—white kanji on bright yellow. This use of yellow was fairly rare in Maki’s work. It is a square print—13.625 sq inches—in excellent condition. A ray of sunshine in any collection, on any wall.
