Oil on canvas, 18 1/4" by 27 1/2" plus 3 1/2" wood frame, signed at lower right by the artist in Cyrillic and dated "51". This is a work of Russian impressionist LEONID BORISOVICH IANOUSH (1897-1978). His name has been spelled also as "Yanush". This is a finely executed work. A watercolor and gouache painting of a creek lined by mature white birch trees, 14 1/2" by 21 1/2" in its thin strip frame, the work signed at lower left "A. ABRAMS". The eastern artist Raphael Senseman of New Jersey painted in much this same style, so much so that one is tempted to think that "A. Abrams" could be a pen name. The watercolor is fresh and in excellent condition.

A large watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, 22 1/2" by 32 1/2", unframed, the subject a classic landscape of northern New Mexico, with adobes and distant mountains prominent. The work is discretely signed at lower right edge area, and dated there 1938. The artist, FRODE DANN (1892-1984), was born in Denmark and educated in art at the Royal Academy. After a time in art restoration, he moved to the United States in 1926, there to begin a long career as painter, writer, art critic, and teacher...

A charming small painting of a cold winter day in the country, a lone woman braving the elements with her cane, in front of a modest cottage doing its best against the harsh elements. Some smoke comes from the chimney as a hint of warmth in an otherwise bleak scene. Measurements as framed are 9" by 13 1/2". There is no signature. The reverse shows this is painted on a circa 1870's gray English art board from a London supply house...

Sold together as a **PAIR**, two watercolor paintings, each signed "BUZZI", one measuring 13 1/2" by 9", the other slightly larger at 14 1/2" by 9" (both 23" by 16 1/2" as framed), the subject two ladies going about their daily activities, dressed in 19th century garb. Condition of both is excellent, with fresh color, and no foxing/staining. The artist is most likely by listed artist Achille Buzzi or possibly Arturo Buzzi.

Oil on unusual crimped/bent metal tin panels, each extensive landscape painting measuring 5 1/2" by 9 1/2" and about 1 1/2" margin all around, each signed at bottom in red "H. ROUX". These are beautifully painted works of the nineteenth century by an apparently listed Swiss artist. The pair has some scratches and small abrasions in a few spots, and one has a scratched area at top extending into the gold margin; but, these flaws are not so significant as to affect the overall impression...

This oil on canvas painting of a waterfall in a forest, the light refracting the spray into a rainbow, was acquired by me more than 15 years ago here in Los Angeles. Measuring 14 1/2" by 11 3/4" (19" by 16" in circa 1930 frame), it retains some evidence of a signature, in red, at lower right, that signature ending in "s"; and on the stretcher confidently written in an old hand is "F. De Bergh Richards"...

Lithograph, subtly colored in black, tan/gray and white, numbered at lower left margin 8/100, pencil signed at lower right, by one of England's earliest Abstract Expressionist painters, FRANK AVRAY WILSON (1914-2009). The print measures 25 1/4" by 19 1/2", and is presently housed in a simple metal frame which has wear. Wilson was an active figure in the art scene in London from about the late 1940's, peaking artistically in the 1960's, before ceasing exhibition and promotion in the mid 1970's....

This is an original etching and aquatint print with embossing on a heavy, quality handmade paper, the sheet 19 1/2" by 26", (currently unframed), the work titled "The White Nile", signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 44/125 at lower left. The total edition (including proofs?) may have been 250. The print is extremely clean and fresh and in excellent condition, with the exception of some tape residue on the reverse and very small light stain at left margin, barely visible. JULIAN TREVE...

If one conducts an internet search for the English twentieth century artist Bettina Shaw-Lawrence, one finds her name mingled with some of England's modern art greats, (and literature notables, as well), she knew Lucian Freud, Cedric Morris, David Kentish, the Surrealist poet David Gascoyne.......and studied with the likes of Fernand Leger and Ossip Zadkine. The artist passed away in Italy in 2018 at the age of 97, and her art is seemingly ignored by the auction world, but, as part of the East ...
