This is an etching on paper, 7" by 6" (12" by 9 1/4" framed) by Tennessee born artist JAMES CARL HANCOCK (1898-1966), titled "THE GATE OF THE LIONS NEW ORLEANS LA." at lower right and signed in pencil below and dated there 1939. This is a view of old French Quarter New Orleans by a talented etcher. Hancock was self taught and in 1938 a book of his etchings, drypoints and sketches was published. An impressionist still life of vase and flowers on a table top in an interior, 23 1/2" by 17 1/2" (29" by 22 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by artist HAIG ALTOUN and dated there 1940. The work is beautifully executed by a trained hand but strangely I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, which is of Armenian extraction. Condition is excellent.

John Taylor Arms 1887-1953 American This is an artists proof etching by American artist John Taylor Arms. The title is Limoges, part of his French Church Series created and printed in 1932. This etching is hand signed in pencil with an image size of 10 1/16X13 5/8. This image is inscribed lower right: "Beautiful impression, pulled by D.S. and J.T.A." Inscribed also as artist proof number III. Printed on a J. Whatman watermarked laid type paper. A beautiful impression.

Luigi Kasimir 1881-1962 Austrian This is a fine original color etching by Austrian artist Luigi Kasimir. The scene is the New York Stock Exchange, created and printed circa 1932. This image is hand signed in pencil and numbered 29/100. The image measures 17 1/4X10 5/8 inches. This etching is nicely framed with the early label from J. Assenheim in New York.
