One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) this is a sketch in soft pencil on paper, the drawing and frame 10 3/4" by 22", signed at lower right, and dated there '65, by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

A rare opportunity to acquire an original drawing by a very highly esteemed twentieth century California artist, the works of whom have exceeded $50,000 at auction. This drawing is signed at lower left by the sought-after ROGER KUNTZ (1926-1975). The subject is clearly "Museum (XXX) Art" and I believe it likely to be a study for the Laguna Art Museum on Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, California. The work itself measures 15 1/2" by 20 1/2"...

This one is hard to describe....but I will start somewhere. It is an oil on canvas work, unframed, 24" by 24", with no signature on the front, and only "SARAH W." on the overlap giving any possible indication as to who painted this. A green eye within a triangular window in to a human face stares at the viewer, Magritte-like, as the face of a young black child stares from the lower right corner, as a complex pair of intertwined figures at lower left make for arresting and dream-like imagery...

PAIR OF signed ink drawings with pencil underneath, each 7 1/2" by 6 1/2" and 13 1/2" by 11 1/2" as identically framed, the subjects famous clipper ships of the 19th century "Gamecock" and "Cutty Sark", each bearing a signature at lower right that could be interpreted as a "G" inside a square. Found in Maine, and said to have come from a Kennebunkport home, the artist who created the drawings might remain a mystery...

Black ink on paper still life including wine bottle, Asian pot in foreground, potted plant and objects on a distant table, 17 1/4" by 11 1/4" (25" by 19" as framed), signed at lower right by well listed artist WAYNE LA COM (1922-). The economy of draftsmanship in this ink drawing reminds of the skilled pen technique of Henri Matisse and his famous nudes. La Com is known for his skilled watercolors in the 20th century California Scene style...

This is an original drawing by the hand of the famous, iconic American cartoonist CHARLES M. SCHULZ (1922-2000), signed "Sparky". The work, drawn with color markers, measures 13 1/2" by 10" inside the mat, and is inscribed "For Bonnie & Dave with Friendship". As original art by a man considered one of the most influential cartoonists of all time, this is a desirable work indeed. The artist and his "Peanuts" comic strip has become part of international pop culture...

Three drawings in pencil on gray-blue paper, each 7 1/2" by 12" approximately inside the mat, all of coastal scenes with multiple figures, sailing ships and even dogs and donkeys. Two are signed with the "W C" initials and are dated Nov. 1866; the third one with conjoined initials is titled "Falmouth" (a city in Cornwall, on the southwest coast of England) and is dated 12 June 1867...

This is an unframed study in pencil by a noted figure in eastern American art, XANTHUS RUSSELL SMITH (1839-1929). The artist, at age 85, signed it with his distinctive "XS" monogram at lower left, and wrote "Painted in oil this size", and dated it Nov. 29- 1924. The sketchbook paper measures 6 5/8" by 9". It would be interesting to pair this with the oil version, in order to gain insight into the artist's artistic process...

Ink on paper laid on board, 6 1/4" by 4 1/4" (the drawing itself), signed at lower right J.C.F.M. and signed again on reverse of the card "J.C.F. Murray '08" and titled "Volendam". I don't see a listing for this name, if I'm reading it correctly, but the drawing is obviously by a trained hand. Note the details of the wooden shoes on both figures, the traditional bonnet on the lady. Volendam is a small town north of Amsterdam and is known for its traditional dress and traditions...
