Gouache and watercolor on paper drawing, 11" by 8 1/2", in metal framing, no glass, signed at bottom right possibly "LEE" and perhaps a date "41" or "47" after that. The framing was done in the Seattle area (see sticker), and putting the style together with that framing information, I feel that perhaps this might be by an artist working in the Mark Tobey school in the Northwest, but this is speculation. The work certainly resembles Mark Tobey's work in many respects...

Gouache and pencil on paper, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (slightly larger as simply framed), signed at lower left by listed American artist JOHN EDWIN JACKSON (1876-1950). The scene is a genteel one, with a proper southern gentleman and belle, in a grand architectural setting. The artist was very prolific, illustrating many books and magazines in the first half of the twentieth century, yet, little seems to be known about him. A few pieces have been sold at illustration art auctions...

For the collector of marine or maritime art and antiques, a color drawing, 12" by 28" with simple 3/4" wood frame, depicting what appears to be a ferry boat of the first part of the century. There's an initial signature at lower right that looks like "HWS" or "AWS". The work is a multi-media piece; it appears that pencil, colored pencil, pastel and even white gouache were part of the mix. The tan paper is thin almost tissue like; it is wrinkled in many spots (see photos)...

Something of a mystery piece, this unsigned mixed media drawing in gouache, watercolor, pencil and ink rather resembles the stage design work of the noted artist Eugene Berman (1899-1972). Measuring 14" by 19 1/2", unframed, the drawing is on paper laid down on another sheet of paper. It has traveled without framing so has become dog eared and acquired a number of other flaws including a heavy crease at upper left and other issues within the imagery...

Two works by Helen Malta of human figures, a watercolor with standing figures facing away from one another, the other with two intense faces side by side, both signed by the artist on paper. The two standing figures measure 12" x 9" and the other is 9 5/8" x 8 1/4". The standing water color also has drawn lines in red, and is signed at the bottom between the figures. the figure on the right holds a bird...

By the celebrated and increasingly sought-after Wisconsin-associated artist LUCIA STERN (1895-1987), this is a fine modernist collage of actual threads of various colors criss-crossing a painting on canvas that is primarily in silver paint, with painted dots, circles rectangles and other geometric forms completing the composition, which measures 17" by 14" plus attractive narrow blond wood frame (no glass)...

This is a work in gouache, tempera or casein, 17 1/2" by 23 1/2" inside the mat liner (30" by 36" as nicely framed), signed at lower right in white "Liberte". JEAN LIBERTE (1896-1965) was an artist noted in reference works as early as the 1940's...

Watercolor and ink on paper painting of a large mature tree in a landscape, 14" by 18" inside the mat, 22" by 25" overall in contemporary pleasant gold framing, titled at lower right "HORTUS LEIDEN GLINGKO TREE/RAPHAEL". The work is by the hand of the important impressionist painter JOSEPH MORRIS RAPHAEL (1869-1950). Raphael was born in Jackson, California, in the so-called Gold Country, but spent a lot of his time in the Low Countries of Europe, so both artistic communities "claim" him...

A watercolor and gouache painting of a creek lined by mature white birch trees, 14 1/2" by 21 1/2" in its thin strip frame, the work signed at lower left "A. ABRAMS". The eastern artist Raphael Senseman of New Jersey painted in much this same style, so much so that one is tempted to think that "A. Abrams" could be a pen name. The watercolor is fresh and in excellent condition.

This is an extremely detailed ink and watercolor drawing on paper, unsigned, of a public building that might have become a federal building like a post office, civic center, etc. It measures roughly 24" by 39" in an octagonal shape, and a ( basically, protective only) inexpensive frame comes with it. Upon close examination, above the main door, one can read "Independence/United States/Freeport Ill(inois)...

Louis Marcoussis (Ludwig Casimir Ladislas Markus) Warsaw,Poland,1878-1941. In 1901 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts of Cracow to study painting with Jan Crzegorz Stanislawski. In 1903 Markus moved to Paris, where he worked briefly under Jules Lefebvre at the Académie Julian* and became a friend of La Fresnaye and Robert Lotiron...

This work was done during the late 1930's as part of the 'Cooperative' project in the New Hope, Pa. modern art community. Charles Ramsey, Louis Stone and Charles Evans worked collectively on many drawings and paintings during this time...

This vintage exquisite bronze sculpture of an elegant female figure wearing a draped dress and long slender arms is holding a parrot with long curved tail feather. A rich brown patina throughout and attached on a dark-green marble base, signed. The artist known for his Art Deco bronzes lived in France...
