This is a most interesting assemblage, of ceramic, paint, photographs and other materials, 16" by 24", unframed, signed at lower right and in two places on the stretcher and dated 2005 by the noted Belgium-born, California contemporary artist SIMONE GAD (1947-2021). Circa 1965 red free form metal sculpture on a black wooden base by George Curtis (1923-2010). Curtis developed a unique way of creating freedom as opposed to formal structure sculptures. Using a 5 gallon pail filled with water and potatoes, he would melt scrap aluminum and pour it into the pail. The result was an unvisualized form that humans have never seen before, a representation of the shape of spaces and caverns between objects. Measures 15" high.
