Australian aboriginal art, painted on eucalyptus bark in the traditional manner, the imagery featuring four long-necked birds and leaves, against a patterned background. The work might bear the name of the artist on the reverse, written in white chalk, but that is indecipherable. The word "Mapuru" is readable; this is a remote, pure, isolated area of northeast Arnhem Land in the tropical north of the country, about 600 km. east of Darwin. Measurements are 21" by 12 1/2"...

Gouache and watercolor on paper drawing, 11" by 8 1/2", in metal framing, no glass, signed at bottom right possibly "LEE" and perhaps a date "41" or "47" after that. The framing was done in the Seattle area (see sticker), and putting the style together with that framing information, I feel that perhaps this might be by an artist working in the Mark Tobey school in the Northwest, but this is speculation. The work certainly resembles Mark Tobey's work in many respects...

Tyars/5-9-03/The Brig". A handwritten note of later 20th century date says "ON THE BACK/FROM E.R. HUGHES OR E.V. FLOYD/TO C.H. SULLIVANT ??/ON HIS APPROACHING MARRIAGE". There are some references to Tyars' work online, but little biographical information is available...

A charming drawing of a village square and church, in graphite, a little wash, and perhaps chalk, on mellow, soft laid paper, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" (17 1/4" by 13 1/2" in inexpensive modern framing), signed at lower right by the French artist and illustrator RENE ROUSSEL (1885-1962). The artist though undeniably talented, has unfortunately and unjustly become obscure, little known to today's collectors. It took an internet search to find his birth and death dates and assemble a biography of sorts...

An unframed miniature painting featuring amazingly detailed ink and watercolor scenes of 17th or 18th Venice, the sheet 10" by 8", signed at bottom margin by listed French illustrator artist JEAN GRADASSI (1907-1989). Condition is excellent. Many hours of work went into creating this work, which approaches medieval manuscripts and book of hours paintings in its detail...

The work is technically excellent, leading one to think it a print, but I guarantee this to be an original work...

For the collector of marine or maritime art and antiques, a color drawing, 12" by 28" with simple 3/4" wood frame, depicting what appears to be a ferry boat of the first part of the century. There's an initial signature at lower right that looks like "HWS" or "AWS". The work is a multi-media piece; it appears that pencil, colored pencil, pastel and even white gouache were part of the mix. The tan paper is thin almost tissue like; it is wrinkled in many spots (see photos)...

The size of work: 12 3/4 x 9 7/8. This is another small Zeka’s work with more abstract forms than other one. This work also has other drawing form on darker area They are intentionally painted with different tone pigment. Again, it is very interesting...

This appears to be an image in gouache on top of some kind of waxy scratchboard, measuring 10" by 14" (17" by 20 3/4" as framed), signed at lower left "DE GUST" and dated there "59". I can't find a listing for the artist but he or she painted in a classic style pioneered by the likes of Jean Le Mayeur and others in the history of modern Indonesian art. The painting is in excellent condition, and is ready for the wall in its simple black frame and clean mat.

Watercolor and gouache drawing of fruits in a bowl, a brass candle stick, knife and flask, 14" by 10", 21" by 15 3/4" as framed, apparently unsigned. This is an accomplished drawing in fine condition by an elusive artist about which there seems to be little to know, FREDERICK MILLSON. This and two other works by him came out of a San Fernando Valley estate (the others listed here). The family said that they were all works by this artist, who was a family friend who played the cello, and painted...

This carved lapis lazuli melon shape snuff bottle is 2 ½ inches tall, 1 ¾ inches wide and 1 ¼ inches thick. The artist carved a large melon as the snuff bottle and a smaller melon with leaf and spouts as decoration. The snuff bottle is well hollowed but has some natural flaws. It is in great condition.

This carved rock crystal snuff bottle is 2 ¾ inches tall, 1 ½ inches wide and 1 ¼ inches thick. It depicts a bird in a lotus pond. The snuff bottle is well hollowed and polished. It has cone shape agate top. The crystal has natural grains and impurities.

When I first saw this abstracted figure drawing I was half expecting to see the "Moore" signature, thinking this a dead ringer for the work of famous English modern artist Henry Moore (1898-1986). Measuring 8" by 6", 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" including the gray mat and silver metal frame, the piece is signed "Saibra" at lower right, or, possibly (less likely), "Sailera".
