Circa 1965 red free form metal sculpture on a black wooden base by George Curtis (1923-2010). Curtis developed a unique way of creating freedom as opposed to formal structure sculptures. Using a 5 gallon pail filled with water and potatoes, he would melt scrap aluminum and pour it into the pail. A modern, stylish abstract in violets and blue-green colors, nicely framed ("floating") with inner fillet and very complementary silvery outer frame, signed at lower right by artist MARC BENSIMON (1926-) and dated there 1982. The work measures 18" by 12" (28" by 22 1/2" framed). Surprisingly, considering the quality of the work, I am unable to locate information on the artist. Condition is excellent, just the slightest wear on the frame. Very decorative sleek work for the home.
