Born in Germany in 1857 in the town of Harthau, he moved to America and painted in New England and traveled to paint in Europe where this scene was done in Katwijk, which also happens to be the town where he died in 1929. Crayon drawing of two nude females, 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the mat, 20" by 16" framed, bearing at lower right the stamped atelier signature of the important French artist ACHILLE-EMILE OTHON FRIESZ (1879-1949). On the reverse, a modern label gives the title as "Nude with Veil". Friesz was born in Le Havre to a family of shipbuilders and sea captains...

Uncommonly exquisite, large original drawing in pastel, 25 1/2" by 19 1/2", 35 1/2" by 27 1/2" as professionally framed in bleached wood, signed at lower left and dated there '91 by the noted American artist LOU KOHL-MORGAN (1942-). Purchased recently in Portland, Maine, the work bears a gallery label from the Frick Gallery of Belfast, Maine. The title of the work is "Equinox". Frick Gallery on the central Maine coast was an active gallery in the late 1980's and early to mid 1990's...

From our Fine Arts and Americana Collection, a very good and sizeable pastel impressionist piece by Luis Bodes of Alhambra Spain, depicting two couples in a forest landscape. Executed in earthy tones of various greens, browns, rust, straw color, taupe and white, this piece has a natural tranquility to it we felt was universally appealing...

For the dog aficionado, especially those who prize the terriers, a 24" by 30" pastel of two white dogs lounging most comfortably on cushions in an upscale interior, while staring out placidly at the viewer. The piece is apparently signed in monogram at upper right within the oval, the monogram seemingly "AVB" or something similar. For a time I thought the work unsigned, but, the monogram does indeed appear to be a signature...
