A detailed gouache painting of two female and one male figure in a green landscape with trees and flowers, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (13 1/2" by 11 1/2" in gold framing), painted in the centuries-old traditional style of the Indo-Persian School, but contemporary. The condition is excellent and this is a very decorative piece. The amount of work involved to create such a detailed image is stupendous---though the market undervalues the handiwork.

A gouache on paper painting of a traditional Russian church, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (16 3/8" by 13 1/4" in simple light simulated wood frame), not apparently signed but with a few penciled words in Russian on the reverse side. Nicely executed by a talented hand. Note the four pointed "Christmas star" at upper right. At lower left corner there is a diagonal crack in the paper, not a significant issue.

A late 20th century intricate painting of the Indo-Persian, Mughal School, sometimes referred to as Indian Persian, measuring 10" by 6" including margins (12" by 8" in the ornately patterned style of frame that often accompanies such works). The painting is in excellent condition, though old water intrusion at upper and lower left has left dampstains. A mat with curving, oval shape would hide this. Frame is delaminating at left edge and extreme top left corner shows some loss...

A view of Ely Cathedral in eastern England, signed at lower right by listed contemporary British artist KENNETH W. BURTON (1946-), the work painted skillfully in gouache and measuring 9" by 13" (18 1/2" by 22 3/4" in whitish wood frame). Condition of painting and frame excellent. Burton was born in Lincolnshire and has painted widely throughout the United Kingdom, seeking out a wide range of landscape subject matter. A contemporary drawing in gouache in the classic Indian manner, depicting mounted royalty on elephants, other mounted apparently royal figures (maharaja?) on a camel and horse, in an exotic landscape including a palace in the distance. The work is in the style commonly seen for at least 500 years in India and Persia. The artist has taken great care with the amazing details. Measures 13 1/2" by 10 3/4" framed. The painting is titled "Saint Neofytos", which literally means, according to a Greek-speaker with whom I consulted (for a lack of a better term), the "NEWLY INITIATED ONE"...

Gouache on paper drawing of a snowy mountain landscape with low structures depicted almost cubist style in the middle distance, apparently unsigned, circa mid 20th century, 12 1/4" by 16 1/2" inside the mat, 21" by 24" as framed. The cubistic handling of the houses reminds of artists like Andrew Dasburg and other New Mexico modernists, but this is just a guess. The colors are fresh and quite vigorous. The drawing is taped along the edges to a backing.

By the noted California artist FRANK MOSS HAMILTON (1930-1999) is this gouache on paper painting, 11 1/4" by 15 1/2" inside the frame, 19" by 23 1/2" framed, signed at lower right by the artist and titled there "December Snow". Hamilton was a highly talented master of realistic painting, sometimes in oil but perhaps more impressively in gouache or tempera or casein type media...

A small gouache or tempera painting on paper, 4 3/4" by 7 3/4" (11" by 14 1/2" in wood frame), the subject given in a title as "Supper Guest"; a saddled horse waits outside the fence in a chilly wintry scene in front of an old, unpainted weathered wood house, some lights hinting at more comfort inside. The artist JEFFREY CRAVEN (1950-) signed his name at lower left adjacent to the title. Craven is a professional artist in the Snake River area of southern Idaho...

A tempera or gouache painting titled "Good Times, Hard Times", 1985, by noted Southern California artist BARBARA LEE DOUGHERTY (1949-2015), the subject given as a scene on a back road between Santa Paula and Ojai in Ventura County. Dougherty was an active exhibitor at art shows in California through the 1980's and 1990's. Evidently later she spent time in Maryland. See information online about the talented artist...
