A floral still life painting on pebbled paper, 14 1/2" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, 19" by 15" as nicely framed (no glass). The work bears signature "Montezin" at lower left but I have researched the piece and it is not by the noted French artist. It is offered solely on its decorative qualities. There are light folds in the paper at top but they are not really a concern.

Painting on board of a kneeling stylized Native American male figure holding ceremonial staff and feathers, 21 3/4" by 23" (28" by 29 1/2" as framed), signed at the lower left by artist RED HAT. This work likely dates to the period between the late 1940's and about 1955 I would guess. The streamlined style reflects the Moderne and Art Deco movements earlier in the century. I do not see information on the artist...

Gouache on satin painting of a well-dressed French young woman of the 1950's, by artist O. Vorgang. The work, unframed, measures 12" by 9 1/2" inside an old mat. It is signed at lower right (difficult to decipher) and remaining on the old mat is a printed label "Water Original Hand Painting on Satin by O. Vorgang". "French Girl" is also written on the back of the card to which the satin is laid (as well as some other old handwriting)...

NOT a print, this is an original drawing of Humpty Dumpty in ink and gouache. The work measures 10 1/4" by 7 1/2" and 17 1/4" by 15 1/4" as framed. The character of Humpty Dumpty dates to the 19th century , and the "anthropomorphic egg" character has become one of the most beloved and famous in all of nursery rhymedom. The piece was likely dated in the mid 20th century. It would make a wonderful addition to a child's room. Condition is excellent.

Oil on paper painting, 5 1/2" by 3 3/4" (12 1/2" by 9 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by the noted Alaska artist JEANNE LAURENCE. Jeanne Laurence (1887-1980) was the wife of the famous Alaskan artist Sydney Laurence, and the author of the book "My Life with Sydney Laurence". Jeanne was a talented artist in her own right, her reputation overshadowed by her husband's wide renown in Alaska and beyond...

**ONE OF THREE ORIGINAL WORKS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**Gouache on thin board, 16" by 14", unframed, the subject a young girl wearing a flower-bedecked hat, signed at lower right by the listed California and Illinois artist MARGO ALEXANDER (1894-1965). This is a whimsical and very feminine subject that would be a fine addition to a lady's dressing area perhaps...

Gouache on paper, 18 3/4" by 14 3/4" (28" by 24" framed), signed at lower right and dated 1945 by the listed Illinois-born artist ERWIN WILLIAM HOBBY (1892-1977). This is a classic landscape of high mountains in the American west---possibly Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho or Montana, or the Pacific Northwest. The peak has a volcanic look to it so I might lean towards Oregon or Washington or Northern California even. The artist was born in Joliet, Illinois, and died there...

For years, I have seen these gouache paintings of cockatoos, in the Art Deco style, circulating around Southern California, but I didn't know the identity of the artist, as there seemed to be no listing. Now, with his death in 2012, there is some information online. This drawing is 23" by 17" (28 1/2" by 22 1/2" framed), signed at lower left center in the image, by former child actor-turned artist BILLY SEAY (1922-2012). He was one of the biographers of Sascha Brastoff...

Gouache and watercolor on paper landscape titled on reverse "Arab Village Near Jerusalem", measuring 14 5/8" by 19 3/4" (26" by 29" as framed), signed at lower right "WM. D. RAFFEL" and dated 1954. This is a beautifully executed work in fine condition save for a cracked (but not detached) upper left corner due to brittleness likely caused by aging...

An original gouache (or casein, tempera, etc.) on paper of a Native American male warrior, signed at lower right by the noted artist WOODROW WILSON BIG BOW (1914-1988) and dated there '50. A very early original work, 1948, by famous California-based Pop Art master WAYNE THIEBAUD (1920-2021): a caricature of a man, seen in profile, executed in a cartoonish style, in grays, white and black. The piece (14 1/2" by 12" within the mat) is signed by the artist at lower left center, and dated nearby. There is a horizontal fold as shown, and some discoloration of the paper at right, along the fold...

Gouache on paper or paper on board, 6 1/8" by 7 3/8" and 1 3/8" frame, (14" by 15" overall as framed), signed at lower left "Bud" DUNCAN, no date but likely executed circa 1940. This is skillfully executed, in high key colors of pink, yellow, and violet shades. There are some condition issues; a 1" hairline diagonal surface abrasion in sky at center, and several punctures/pressure cracks from the reverse through to the drawing at left and top, and in the busy sage clumps at right . Frame has s...

The work is in gouache on paper on board, 10 1/2" by 13", signed at lower left, the subject a split rail fence in a brushy late autumn subdued landscape, This has a frame, of sorts, but it is old and cheap and falling apart. The art has some condition problems, most notably at lower right, where I think moisture exposure has sort of erased the image in that corner. Properly framed, this little work by a listed woman artist who painted a number of western Virginia landscapes will live on. Barr...

A gouache on paper painting of a vase with white flowers, blue on white plates, green bowl with cherries, a decorative leaded window beyond, the work signed at lower right corner with what appears as "Louise Brentnall" and dated there 44 (or, I think less likely, 77). The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7" (12 3/4" by 10 3/4" in simple strip frame). I do not see an artist by this name, if I am reading the name correctly. I thought it might read "Louise Brumback", but that artist died in 1929. So, ...
