Drawing in gouache on very delicate, thin, brownish, fibrous paper, 9" by 6" inside the mat (15 3/4" by 12 1/2" as simply framed in wood), the scene a grand classical archway in a southern Spanish city like Granada or Sevilla, a prominent figure of a lady in the foreground and a number of much smaller figures beyond the arch and at right. The work is signed at lower left with what appears to be "C. R. DeWitt"--SPAIN". I've looked online and surprisingly cannot find an artist by this name...

This work was likely created in the 1960's or early 1970's at latest, in Brazil. There is no glass nor mat; over time, at top center left in the tree line, and in the sky, the work acquired small paint loss areas, which are overwhelmed b the busyness of the scenery---and they are easily touched up...

Hamilton was a highly talented master of realistic painting, sometimes in oil but perhaps more impressively in gouache or tempera or casein type media...

This is a modernist work (the medium appears to be tempera on board), measuring 10" by 17" (14" by 20 1/2" framed). It is signed at lower left by noted artist AMBROSE PATTERSON (1877-1967) and titled on the reverse, rather mysteriously, "The Alert". This is a late painting by the artist, who had a very different style earlier in his long painting career. Subject matter is open to viewer interpretation. The surface certainly seems to be complex and quite heavily worked...

(ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**), gouache on paper, (12 3/4" by 6 3/4"), and 1 1/2" wide frame, signed boldly at lower left by the well listed Italian artist GIOVANNI BATTISTA (1858-1925). This is a panoramic coastal scene, a common subject of the artist, who painted mostly scenes of Naples, Venice, the Amalfi coast, and Vesuvius. The painting is in excellent, fresh condition. Works by Battista are offered regularly at auction, where they can bring into the thousands.

Gouache on paper or paper on board, 6 1/8" by 7 3/8" and 1 3/8" frame, (14" by 15" overall as framed), signed at lower left "Bud" DUNCAN, no date but likely executed circa 1940. This is skillfully executed, in high key colors of pink, yellow, and violet shades. There are some condition issues; a 1" hairline diagonal surface abrasion in sky at center, and several punctures/pressure cracks from the reverse through to the drawing at left and top, and in the busy sage clumps at right ...

Gouache on black paper, 11" by 17" (17 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed), the subject a child-like angel in a nighttime winter landscape of fantasy, carrying a star staff, a doe like Bambi walking beside her. This was not easy to describe; best to just view the images! It is signed at lower right by artist HILDA GENTRY. I do not currently see a listing for this name, but do recall having seen something on the net about her at some time in the past...

For years, I have seen these gouache paintings of cockatoos, in the Art Deco style, circulating around Southern California, but I didn't know the identity of the artist, as there seemed to be no listing. Now, with his death in 2012, there is some information online...

A view of Ely Cathedral in eastern England, signed at lower right by listed contemporary British artist KENNETH W. BURTON (1946-), the work painted skillfully in gouache and measuring 9" by 13" (18 1/2" by 22 3/4" in whitish wood frame). Condition of painting and frame excellent.
