NOT a print, this is an original drawing of Humpty Dumpty in ink and gouache. The work measures 10 1/4" by 7 1/2" and 17 1/4" by 15 1/4" as framed. The character of Humpty Dumpty dates to the 19th century , and the "anthropomorphic egg" character has become one of the most beloved and famous in all of nursery rhymedom. The piece was likely dated in the mid 20th century. It would make a wonderful addition to a child's room. Condition is excellent.

Gouache on board painting, 10" by 16" image with 1" margins, unframed, signed at lower left by well-listed, often-auctioned California artist HARRY CASSIE BEST (1863-1936), the work featuring an unusual subject for the artist, an Italian scene---the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the distance. I do no see any information regarding Best having made any trips to Italy, so this could be a work resulting from the artist's having seen prints or original works depicting the famous Italian vista...

Gouache and watercolor on paper landscape titled on reverse "Arab Village Near Jerusalem", measuring 14 5/8" by 19 3/4" (26" by 29" as framed), signed at lower right "WM. D. RAFFEL" and dated 1954. Original gouache on paper painting "Water Bearer - Michoacan" by listed California artist JACK DUDLEY (1918-1996). Dudley was a familiar sight around the Laguna Beach area for nearly 40 years, exhibiting at the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts. He studied under California art luminaries Lorser Feitelson, Barse Miller, Edward Biberman and Edward Reep. Dudley is known for his landscapes, works featuring architecture, genre of the Southwest, Mexico and Latin America, and wildlife...

Watercolor and gouache on paper, 4 1/2" by 12 1/4", (10" by 17 3/4" in modern framing), apparently unsigned, but I believe likely by a member of the talented and prolific GIANNI Italian painter family. **ONE OF THREE ORIGINAL WORKS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**Gouache on paper, 13 1/2" by 11 1/4" in an old dark stained oak frame, the subject a lovely young lady contemplating a butterfly which has happened to have landed on her fingertip, signed on a fragment of the original work affixed to the backing, by the listed California and Illinois artist MARGO ALEXANDER (1894-1965). This is a whimsical and very feminine subject that would be a fine addition to a lady's dressing area perhaps...

Gouache on paper, 18 3/4" by 14 3/4" (28" by 24" framed), signed at lower right and dated 1945 by the listed Illinois-born artist ERWIN WILLIAM HOBBY (1892-1977). This is a classic landscape of high mountains in the American west---possibly Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho or Montana, or the Pacific Northwest. The peak has a volcanic look to it so I might lean towards Oregon or Washington or Northern California even. The artist was born in Joliet, Illinois, and died there...

Watercolor and gouache on paper, 5 3/4" by 11 1/2", (10 1/2" by 16" as framed), signed at lower left by a talented and prolific Italian painter, I think one of a large group of painters going under the name "Gianni", possibly from the same family. Other works of such southern Italian scenes are signed M. Gianni. The auction houses I think have generally mixed up these late 19th/first half of the 20th century painters and the auction records are hopelessly tangled and inaccurate...

A tempera or gouache painting titled "Good Times, Hard Times", 1985, by noted Southern California artist BARBARA LEE DOUGHERTY (1949-2015), the subject given as a scene on a back road between Santa Paula and Ojai in Ventura County. Dougherty was an active exhibitor at art shows in California through the 1980's and 1990's. Evidently later she spent time in Maryland. See information online about the talented artist...

PAIR of gouache paintings on paper, unframed, each 19 3/4" by 25 1/2", both signed by listed French mid century artist GERARD CABUS (born 1926). One appears to be dated 1967. Cabus was very active in the late 1950's through the 1960's, producing abstract compositions and other works in oil and watercolor. His biography is scant, but it does appear that major Paris galleries in the early 1960's gave him one man exhibitions, and some works have appeared at auction in France...

Gouache on paper drawing of a snowy mountain landscape with low structures depicted almost cubist style in the middle distance, apparently unsigned, circa mid 20th century, 12 1/4" by 16 1/2" inside the mat, 21" by 24" as framed. The cubistic handling of the houses reminds of artists like Andrew Dasburg and other New Mexico modernists, but this is just a guess. The colors are fresh and quite vigorous. The drawing is taped along the edges to a backing.

Detailed Indonesian painting in the classic style from the island of Bali, Indonesia, painted in tempera on cotton canvas laid on board, measuring 21 1/4" by 17". The painting is unusually well executed compared to many from this "school" of painting; the artist was of above average talent, though he or she did not sign the work. The painting is titled "Saint Neofytos", which literally means, according to a Greek-speaker with whom I consulted (for a lack of a better term), the "NEWLY INITIATED ONE". For years, I have seen these gouache paintings of cockatoos, in the Art Deco style, circulating around Southern California, but I didn't know the identity of the artist, as there seemed to be no listing. Now, with his death in 2012, there is some information online. This drawing is 23" by 17" (28 1/2" by 22 1/2" framed), signed at lower left center in the image, by former child actor-turned artist BILLY SEAY (1922-2012). Small gouache on paper painting of famous Mount Vesuvius volcano towering over Italy's Bay of Naples as it emits puffs of smoke, 6" by 8 3/8" inside the mat, 11 1/4" by 13 1/4" in inexpensive modern framing, unsigned. This is quite possibly or even likely a work of the artist Giuseppe Corelli (1858-1925); compare to another, signed work by that name in my shop. A gouache on paper painting of a vase with white flowers, blue on white plates, green bowl with cherries, a decorative leaded window beyond, the work signed at lower right corner with what appears as "Louise Brentnall" and dated there 44 (or, I think less likely, 77). The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7" (12 3/4" by 10 3/4" in simple strip frame). I do not see an artist by this name, if I am reading the name correctly. The work is in gouache on paper on board, 10 1/2" by 13", signed at lower left, the subject a split rail fence in a brushy late autumn subdued landscape, This has a frame, of sorts, but it is old and cheap and falling apart. Gouache on satin painting of a well-dressed French young woman of the 1950's, by artist O. Vorgang. The work, unframed, measures 12" by 9 1/2" inside an old mat. It is signed at lower right (difficult to decipher) and remaining on the old mat is a printed label "Water Original Hand Painting on Satin by O. Vorgang". Mid nineteenth century watercolor, gouache and gum arabic drawing on paper of a young woman with the ringlet hair and prim dark dress fashionable at the time, holding the back of a Hitchcock chair, all against an extensive landscape. The drawing measures 6" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and comes with a newish 1" wide gold colored frame. I don't see a signature. A very colorful fanciful idealized Central American (or, Mexican) landscape painting featuring mountains, churches and colorful houses, birds, peasants working the fields, executed on what I believe is called "amate paper", a woody-looking amalgam that in some ways can resemble a cork board. This was not easy to describe; best to just view the images! It is signed at lower right by artist HILDA GENTRY. A contemporary drawing in gouache in the classic Indian manner, depicting mounted royalty on elephants, other mounted apparently royal figures (maharaja?) on a camel and horse, in an exotic landscape including a palace in the distance. The work is in the style commonly seen for at least 500 years in India and Persia. The artist has taken great care with the amazing details. Measures 13 1/2" by 10 3/4" framed. Possibly acquired originally in India (see reverse partial sticker).

Nicely executed by a talented hand. Note the four pointed "Christmas star" at upper right. At lower left corner there is a diagonal crack in the paper, not a significant issue.

The work, circa 1960's or 1970's, is framed with bamboo style frame. There is a water stain at lower left in the mat area, which is actually composed of a thin wood veneer.
