The artist specialized in these hyper realistic works featuring lilacs, and, sometimes, roses mixed in. He specialized in floral still life works. There is considerable confusion among scholars and collectors as to the family of DeLongpre artists, which were "fleuristes" (flower painters) in Lyons, a center for such activity...

By noted Scottish artist FRANK COLCLOUGH, a PAIR of gouache drawings of landscapes in Scotland, one of a country lane, 7 1/2" by 11 1/4" (15 1/2" by 19" framed), the other of a harbor, 12" by 7 3/4" (20" by 15 1/2" framed). These are very obviously the product of a talented hand. Colclough was painting as early as 1981. Earlier works are in watercolor (or, presumably, gouache, as in the case of these works), while later efforts are more likely to be in oil or acrylic...

Gouache on paper, quite large in comparison to most works by the artist offered at auctions (24" by 19"), and 2 1/4" wide quality vintage frame, signed boldly at lower left by well listed Italian artist GIOVANNI BATTISTA (1858-1925). This is a panoramic coastal scene, a common subject of the artist, who painted mostly scenes of Naples, Venice, the Amalfi coast, and Vesuvius. The painting is in excellent, unusually fresh condition with very minimal foxing...

Gouache on paper drawing of a Baltimore Oriole and a blue jay, 12 1/2" by 16" (23 3/4" by 28" framed), signed at lower right by the noted Disney illustrator AUGUST CURLEY LENOX (1908-1986). This is a really nicely executed work, in the style of an illustrator like Lynn Bogue Hunt or William Schaldach or Rex Brasher. Colors are vivid and the realism is such that the viewer can almost "hear" these birds. I suppose it could have been executed as a book or magazine illustration...

A gouache on paper painting of a vase with white flowers, blue on white plates, green bowl with cherries, a decorative leaded window beyond, the work signed at lower right corner with what appears as "Louise Brentnall" and dated there 44 (or, I think less likely, 77). The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7" (12 3/4" by 10 3/4" in simple strip frame). I do not see an artist by this name, if I am reading the name correctly. I thought it might read "Louise Brumback", but that artist died in 1929...

Gouache on paper laid on board extensive landscape in the naive style, signed at left "Yehoshua" (YEHOSHUA BRANDSTATTER (1891-1975). For the collector of Judaica and Jewish painting, this is a charming work by a noted figure in Israel, a man who did not take up painting until age 72. He immigrated to Israel in 1909 and was active in the Israeli film industry until his senior years...

Gouache on thin card, 10 1/2" by 7 1/2" (19" by 15 1/4" framed), the drawing featuring modern, possibly biomorphic shapes, in a combination of magenta rose, navy blue, yellow and green (colors popular at that time period), signed in pencil at lower right "GILMORE". I can't tie this to any particular listed artist but the image and colors are pure mid century design. The cream frame is of the period. The mat lines are hand drawn...

I do no see any information regarding Best having made any trips to Italy, so this could be a work resulting from the artist's having seen prints or original works depicting the famous Italian vista...

This work was likely created in the 1960's or early 1970's at latest, in Brazil. There is no glass nor mat; over time, at top center left in the tree line, and in the sky, the work acquired small paint loss areas, which are overwhelmed b the busyness of the scenery---and they are easily touched up...

Gouache on satin painting of a well-dressed French young woman of the 1950's, by artist O. Vorgang. The work, unframed, measures 12" by 9 1/2" inside an old mat. It is signed at lower right (difficult to decipher) and remaining on the old mat is a printed label "Water Original Hand Painting on Satin by O. Vorgang". "French Girl" is also written on the back of the card to which the satin is laid (as well as some other old handwriting)...

By the noted illustrator artist RICHARD STINE (1941-) this is a rarely seen original painting, the subject a tree in a strangely empty landscape. The work, measuring 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" in wood strip frame, is painted in gouache, either on the smooth side of a masonite panel, or on heavy paper or board subsequently laid to the masonite. The artist signed at lower right and again on reverse, with his Summerland, CA (adjacent to Santa Barbara) address. Stine is a familiar name due to his uniquely...
