THREE hand colored French 19th century prints featuring early-day Japanese soldiers, each 9 1/4" by 6 3/8" inside the faded old violet mats, to which each is simply taped at top edge. The prints are unframed. Two have a dark foxing mark, and all are of sufficient age to have acquired the signs of age---paper toning, slight handling creases and so forth. Fresh mats and frames will display them properly and preserve them for another 150 or so years...

Engraving with hand coloring, 4 3/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mat, 9 3/4" by 12 3/4" in interesting old framing, the work trimmed on all sides, including the title "The Beverley Shore", after the important nineteenth century American artist JOHN FREDERICK KENSETT (1816-1872). Kensett is famed for his luminist technique and the almost spiritual stillness of some of his coastal landscape paintings, which have exceeded one million dollars at major auctions...

Jacques James Joseph Tissot 1836-1902 French This is one of the finest mezzotints by the important French artist James Jacques Tissot. The title is: Le Banc de jardin (The Garden Bench) It was created and printed in 1883. This was a rare first state impression prior to the lettering added at the bottom edge. This work is pencil signed and inscribed as "1st state" Also with the artists red stamp in the lower left. Printed in a sepia toned ink the image measures 16 1/2X22 1/8 inches...

A hand-colored engraving after William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), titled "Eastport and Passamaquoddy Bay", 1839, engraved by C. Cousen, printed by George Virtue of London, England. Tiny foreground figures relax on a bluff overlooking the panorama, framed by a feathery tree at right and close-in island. William Bartlett was a well-known artist at the time, his topographical scenes very sought after. They proved popular works for transfer to engravings which could be widely distributed...

Attractive old antique print titled "Public landing. Cincinnati", identified by writing on backing as having come from Ballou's Pictorial Companion, 1855. measuring 11" by 15" in its old dark (probably stained walnut) frame with gold fillet. Condition appears fresh and excellent overall. The coloring is hand-applied. An interesting addition to your historic Ohio River or Cincinnati home or office.

Old print of what I believe are camellias, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the mat with hand-drawn outlines, 15 1/4" by 13" in what is now (but might not have been originally) a convincingly distressed gold frame, with hand coloring delicately applied. At upper right near the mat is "Pl." and a number so this was no doubt a plate from a book on botany. The item was probably framed in the early 1960's. There is some water staining of the very lowest portion of the mat...
