The work, 4 1/4" by 5 3/4" inside the mat opening (8" by 10" simply framed) does NOT appear to be by the famous American artist John LaFarge (1835-1910), though a previous owner wrote on the backing information suggesting that it is by that known artist. It might be difficult to ascertain the identity of the John LaFarge who signed this; John La Farge's youngest son, John La Farge Jr...

Drypoint etching print "Chattes" (Cats) published in Paris in the year 1909 by Gustave Pellet, 8 3/4" by 12 1/4" inside the inner fillet, 17 3/4" by 21 3/4" as nicely framed, numbered in pencil 38/50 (and faint red cypher stamp) at lower right margin, and pencil signed by the artist at lower center right margin. There is a crease in each lower corner that I believe likely dates to the time of printing, and there are a few foxing spots, but the overall appearance is excellent...

Born in Rotterdam and educated in art there at the academy, by 1912 he was in Mol, Belgium, becoming part of the "School of Mol" landscape artists...

The work measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/4" inside the plate mark, and the sheet measures 8 1/4" by 6 1/4". This is Guerin #38 in the catalogue raisonne, and probably the 4th (final) state. The paper being very thin and flimsy, would lead me to believe this would NOT be a twentieth century restrike. There is a simple modern frame...

A view of the "Kolk" in Rotterdam, Holland, titled "Rotterdam Kolk" at lower left, plate signed with conjoined initials (tiny) and pencil signed "Marius Janssen" at lower right margin, 12 1/4" by 18 1/2" as framed. The Kolk is a familiar part of the center of this historic city, which suffered severe damage in World War II. The paper has darkened with age, the margins are very tight, maybe trimmed a bit to fit the frame, and there is a small edge tear at upper right, not really visible at all ...

The print measures 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" inside the innermost mat and 12 1/2" by 14" as framed in oak. Ettinger was born in New Jersey and died in Vermont in the 1980's. Etching of a young woman in dreamy sleep, 11 1/2" by 8 1/2" (14 3/4" by 11 3/4" simply framed), titled in the plate "Die Rosen", signed in the plate and again in the margin below in pencil by the German-born artist OTTO GOETZE (1868-1945). The artist's name is also sometimes spelled "Goetz" and some cite a death date of 1931. Goetze was born in Germany and was in San Francisco by 1930. Though evidently little known, judging at least from this sensitively rendered print, he was a master etcher...
