A fine detailed engraved scene of a Arab Fortress, possibly North Africa signed E. pieroth, circa 1880s

This is an original 1924 etching, from the series of 55 etchings by the artist, in the book "Dingo", published that year by Ambroise Vollard Editeur. The edition was 350. "Dingo" featured dogs and their unique habits and characteristics. This image is adorable, and accurately illustrates how dogs interact with one another---the black dog at left lifting his right paw, the white sheep dogs on their guard, sniffing out the newcomer to their territory...

Etching on thin laid paper, 3 3/4" by 2 3/4" (14" by 11" in modern day frame), from the series "Beggars and other low life", by the noted early Dutch artist JAN GILLISZ VAN VLIET (1605-1668). The etching is one image out of a series of ten or eleven similar views by the artist, who, despite information to the contrary, was not strictly a pupil/student of Rembrandt...

Percival Gaskell, Etching, "In the Garden," This very fine impression with its deep rich tones measures 11 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches, c. 1930. Presented on cream wove paper, this original drypoint has wide margins with a sheet size of 15 1/2 x 10 1/4 inches and is pencil signed on the lower border. Born in England and educated in Cambridge, Gaskell studied art in London and Italy before studying under Sir Frank Short at the Royal College of Art.

A most interesting Mid-Century, as late as 1980's perhaps, multiple: a so-called "cast stencil", "cast paper", or "relief" print, therefore three dimensional, featuring a grid pattern of elongated shapes, with air brush paint application on the striking blue and red sections, signed at lower right in pencil and numbered 34/250 in pencil at lower left by noted Arkansas-associated artist PAUL MAXWELL (1925-2015). This is typical imagery by the artist and sculptor...

A Dutch 17th century etching of a standing horse near a humble abode, 6 3/4" by 7 3/4" (14" by 15 1/2" in 20th century appropriate black frame), unsigned, and with no initials or other indication as to authorship. The work bears old pencil notations on the reverse side of the mat; there appear to be names of potential artists that were pondered by a previous observer in my position (including, it appears, question marks to himself)...

A PAIR of very clean French artist 19th century etchings, the subject of both upper class women, one by CHARLES WALTNER (1846-1925), the second by ERNEST JOSEPH LAURENT (1859-1929). They are also very nicely (identically) framed in tasteful black and silvery framing, including silk mat and inner fillet; the frames also in excellent condition. An unframed woodblock print by the hand of one of the masters of 20th century Japanese printmaking, 12 1/2" by 17 3/4" inside the existing mat (the full sheet 16 5/8" by 21 1/2", as permanently laid down on a board), signed in pencil by the artist at lower right and bearing his red seal. The image is of a major traditional multi-tiered temple, perhaps the famous one at Himeji on Honshu, shown in winter with snow on the nearby pines. Sekino was creating art before age 20...

An early (circa 1920's) woodcut print titled at lower left margin "Pikes Peak", numbered there 8/100, and pencil signed at lower right by early, historical Colorado artist HAIM DAVID SPIVAK (1893-1932). The work measures 4" by 5 7/8" inside the mat and 9 1/2" by 11 1/2" in black strip frame. This sharply printed piece shows the famous Colorado mountain near Colorado Springs, a farm or homestead in the foreground. Spivak's works are rare, as he died at age 39 of a brain tumor...
